Plzz Help PGites !!!! - 16-09-2006, 02:56 PM

I'm a Software Engineer with 2+ yrs of experience with decent acads throughout. I took GMAT on 11th Sep but all my hopes crashed like 9-11 on that very day.

Got a pathetic 550 (Q:42 V:24).

Had practiced from OG10,11 , Kaplan/Kaplan800, 1000 SCs/CRs, 800.com tests. (Had prepared for about 3+ Months)

Was able to reach the 650-730 mark in my practice tests GMATPRET.
In each test i was able to get Q:49 easily but in GMAT i was nowhere.

In PowerPrep (750,760).

In Princeton tests - 640 (avg)

In Kaplan Tests - 600 (avg)

I was left with nothing. Had completed each and every thing. I was expecting a decent 700 in GMAT but couldn't make it.

I would like to request all the heavenly souls of PagalGuy and the 700Club to please provide me some valuable suggessions, so that i can clear that 700 Barrier in my second attempt for GMAT.

I'm planning to take the exam within a month or two. What would u suggest..as of hw should i go for it this time????

Waiting for ur replies......

Cheers !!!!
Mandeep

Kindly advise as if the GMAT scores of the 2 attempts will be averaged or the best of two will be considered for the application purpose?????????

In case the requirement is different in case of different universities , kindly provide some information as how should one know which universities accept the average GMAT scores or the other way round???

Cheers !!!!

Mandeep,

Something like this happened to me too. I ended up with a 630 ( Q 48 V 30 ) on the GMAT. I am wondering whether the GMAT prep scores that I got ( 750 and 740 ) were due to bugs in the GMAT calculation method.

All I know is that I have to prepare for the GMAT again. I am retaking the test on 27 Nov again. Need some time to regroup and figure out how this happened. I scored a 650 and 640 on the Kaplan tests. My actual score was infact the lowest of all my practice test scores..Maybe we should chat and figure out if weaknesses are the same.

Vijay

Hi Vijay,

Me too planning to take the GMAT again but haven't booked the date yet. I'm a bit confused as from should i start the perp now as i'd completed most of the prep stuff.

Surely we can chat and point out if we committed some similar mistakes so that we don't commit the same in future.

What is your yahoo id??
mine is <snipped>

Cheers !!!!

First things first - what is your problem ? That is something you might need to figure out yourself. Where do you think you went wrong ? What went through your mind when taking the test ? How was your practice tests different from the actual one ? Was it a case of nerves ? Was it wrong time-management ?

Think, ruminate, mull over, introspect, retrospect...........whatever and come up with what *you* think was the problem. And Im sure you will find many here who will be able to assist you to cracking GMAT the next time around.

Arun

Hi Mandeep,
It seems that you have practised from too many books. The key is analyzing and revising the course/books that you are doing. If you are thorough in your analysis and you have clear strategies in your mind, then only you can go and ace on the test day.
See, the key point is that too many books and materials will muddle your thought process, and that may also createa havoc in your confidence at times. So, My advice to you would be concentrate on a few good books namely, OG 10, Kap800, PR review Verbal,1000 SC(Say first 200/300 depnding on your stamina), analyze ur mistakes, see that you don't make them again and give a lot of tests.
With this, I'm sure u'll get a 700+ score.

Harsh
