Tips for GMAT preparation - 17-05-2006, 04:05 PM

Hi Guys!

This is my first posting . I am a software engineer with 2.5 yrs of exp working in MNC at bangalore.I definitely knew tht software is not my cup of tea and can excel better in Management.

I am looking for MBA at ISB,Hyd for the year 2007-2008.

Could you pls suggest me how to go about the preparation? Is it advisable to join in a institute for GMAT training or buy some books and practice at home? I am a below avg student in Math .

Last date for ISB application submission is in the 1st week of Oct,2006.I have only a quarter for GMAT preparation. Suggest me the best possible option/tips as I need to manage my preparation along with my regular office work.

Pls help me with providing required info..

Sunitha I am working in an IT company and I too plan to take GMAT some where in Sep,2006.So I keep frequenting this site. Its simply great.

Well the answer to your second question is I don't feel there is any need for a coaching inst. coz the books are good and more over you must have covered all that basic stuff in school. Now you just have to brushup your basics and time yourself.Solve as many Que. as possible.

Btw ...you work for which IT firm?

Re: Tips for GMAT preparation - 20-05-2006, 04:36 PM

Hello All,

I am planning to appear for GMAt this July. With preparations not too great..trying to gather momentum and motivation..i am from mumbai..
I had following questions GMAT:

1.I learnt that experimental questions are asked in the Quant and verbal questions. As per kaplan anand OG approx 37 and 41 questions needs to be solved for Qant and verbal resp. This number is excluding the experimental questions. Just want to know about how many experimental questions does one has to answer. As more the number of experimetal questions less the time I have to solve each question in GMAT test.

2.I am aiming at the exMBA at IIM Ahm and Indore..Can anyone give me an idea of the target score I should get to secure admission. I am a engineer with total 5-6 yr experience in manufacturing, service provider, software, product development firms including 1.5yr international experience..with decent academic background.

thanks,
prashant

Re: Tips for GMAT preparation - 22-05-2006, 11:59 PM

agree...totally depends on u if a class is right 4 u...i wud start wit books and tests and see what works, then go 4 a class if u r not getting ur hopeful score. classes can be v. good if u need discipline and like 2 learn from a teacher instead of books.

i got cracking the gmat from princeton review and their verbal/math workbooks. very good. also get official book from www.mba.com and the gmatprep tests. must get those 4 ur prep.

all the best.

Hi Sunitha,

I would suggest you to try out the demo classes given by "Kalyan", an ex princeton review faculty. I took a one on one session with him and I feel that none of the commercial training centres come close.

I am a product of the London Schools of Economics and currently the acting principal of Christ College of Law, Bangalore. I can give you further clarification if you are seriously decided upon GMAT. My no is 98802 15730.

Very Best!
John Thaliath
