Lightbulb Study Kit for GMAT - 23-10-2005, 10:35 PM

I am planning to give GMAT during last week of Jan,06 and wanted help regarding the study material which i would need to go thru for this exam.

After exploring all the forums, these are following books i am planning to go through/buy

1) Kaplan Comprehensive -2006
2) Kaplan 800 (2005-2006)
3) The Official Guide of GMAT (11 edition)

and some practice test

Do u folks think these are enough to get a score of 700+

Your expert advise is very much appreciated. I have not brought the above books and based on ur feedback might plan to buy others

One of the questions i had is, is it necessary to get Kaplan Comprehensive and kaplan 800 , would it be like repetitive,
or just buying kaplan 800 would be sufficient.

As per the MBA website, there would not be much change in the way the tests are conducted, but do u think that ACT(Who will develop the exam from 2006 to be delivered by Pearson VUe) would plan to deviate from the existing toughness of ETS and make it more tougher or complex..

Best wishes to folks who are planning to give exam anytime soon..

Thanks
Sam

1) I think these books are enuf. If u think KAP will get too repetitive then u can go for Princeton Cracking GMAT and Kap800. U require a fundamental book if u are giving GMAT for the first time. If more practice is needed u may go thru online forums. All depends upon ur level ..

2) As per my understanding ETS was the test "provider" and GMAC is the test "maker" only the provider is changing so I dont think there would be any change in the toughness "due to change in service provider" .

I hope i have solved ur queries

Shetty Bhai,
Want to start a study group? I am 32 yr old retard who is planning to take GMAT around the same time (Mid - Late January 2006). Maybe we can share some study materials.

One of these 780+ kids could help us get something like 730+. I have only made up my mind and haven't started any prep until now...

May I join in too in this study group.
I'm 28 yrs old with 5 yrs exp in IT - just hitting the plateau- so wud like to take teh GMAT somewhere in Jan 2006.
Targeting at a 725+ score; don't have previous GMAT experience, and my VA and QA are rusty from disuse (after the last CAT I took in 2003) but took the crack gmat free test just like that and made 630.

Hoping to find some more guyz join in.

Me too currently in the States, so using my broadband connection and the public libraries for studying after office hours.
Yes, it's a good idea to start a new thread for Jan 2006.
Regarding online resources- search on this forum itself, you'll get a lot of links in the posts.
I'll list some of the links I found useful:
1. Ok- before you take the big jump, read this blog/experience to decide whether you have it in you to go the entire mile:
An International MBA: http://www.pagalguy.com/index.php?ca...2_articleid=65
More of the links at http://simba.pagalguy.com - Sowmya's blog.
2. So now that you've decided to take the plunge: here's a few sites where you can find out some more info, take a few tests, ...basically test the waters...you get the drift
http://www.gmatclub.com
http://www.gmattutor.com
http://www.crack-gmat.com
http://www.testmagic.com
http://www.800score.com
http://www.free-gmat.com

These are a lot of websites, but you still need to have some books which you can't do without:
0. The Official Guide to GMAT - check out details on www.amazon.com or on mba.com
1. Princeton Review
3. Kaplan
Most websites offer study plans- here's one of these:
http://www.gmatclub.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1589

Here's wishing us luck for the GMAT! (Give Money And Time) :thumbs up:

Cheers!
~M
