Cool powerprep vs gmatprep - 24-08-2005, 06:17 PM

hi, can any of the pg junta please explain the difference between the two types of tests provided by gmac.

1. Are the questions same or different .

2. The actual gmat resembles the look and feel of which of the 2.

3. are the tests "cat" computer adaptive .

giving gmat in less than 3 weeks. any sort of help will be highly appreciated.

with best regards,

yash

1. Are the questions same or different. --> they are different. (aint sure about the overlap between the two though.)

2. The actual gmat resembles the look and feel of which of the 2. --> the GMATPrep software is for test takers for 2006 to get a look and feel for the new fonts when ACT takes over GMAT. But it also has practice questions similar to those on GMAT. It is different from Powerprep. Powerprep is the only official feel for the GMAT administered till the end of 2005.

3. are the tests "cat" computer adaptive . -->hell yes..!

regards,
dj.

I gave my GMAT this week. In my opinion -

1. Questions in powerprep are retired from GMAT sometime back. But there is a high chance that some 'similar' questions will appear in GMAT. Infact, all the questions in powerprep tests are covered in the Official Guide (OG)

2. Yes, the powerprep s/w resembles that of actual GMAT. Even Kaplan higher score CD is a close match.

3. Powerprep is not as adaptive as actual GMAT, i.e. the pool of questions in powerprep is very small, so variations in difficulty level fo questions is not that big.

Good luck on your gmat!

Yes and No

Yes because the difficulty level is same as Real GMAT and it adapts itself as u proceed. No because lot many questions are repeated from OG especially verbal and if u belong to those species who can remember answers than ur final result may be skewed upwards..

My take on the new software. It is for those who plan to give their GMAT next year and as far as kind of questions both have the same Verbal bin but different Math bin. Infact the Math bin of GMAT prep is harder.

Give these Tests as if u are giving ur real GMAT as they will help u in increasing ur level of concentration. As for indicators it is average of all the exams that u take may it be PP ,Princeton or Kaplan
