That's what I feel, attempt less of verbal and score more on RC's - you don't have much disputes in there or over there or about there.

But for almost everybody, the speed is higher (significantly) in Verbal compared to RC. And the strategy can really backfire in case of a tough RC like IMS SimCAT 9 earlier this year.

I think that the best way of cracking Verbal is to read more newspapers and magazines so that the grammar rules are ingrained by practice, rather than having to mug them up.

Re: Verbal Queries... - 01-06-2004, 01:03 PM

lot of confusion.....
this is what i found in Oxford Thsearus..
dispute noun
1. open to dispute debate, discussion, argument, controversy, contention, disagreement, altercation, dissension, conflict, friction, strife, discord, litigation.
2. have a dispute over boundaries argument, row, altercation, clash, quarrel, wrangle, squabble, feud, disturbance, fracas, brawl.

so E is definately wrong.
regd A or C..... in dispute means 'being argued about' (i just got this from the dict) Since phrases win in GMAT, i think its better to mark A than C.....

Thanks for the help guys....

Verbal Query No 2... - 02-06-2004, 05:36 PM

2. In assessing the problems faced by rural migrant workers, the question of whether they are better off materially than the urban working poor is irrelevant.

(A) In assessing the problems faced by rural migrant workers, the question of whether they are better off materially than the urban working poor is irrelevant.
(B) The question of whether the rural migrant worker is better off materially than the urban working poor is irrelevant in assessing the problems that they face.
(C) A question that is irrelevant in assessing the problems that rural migrant workers face is whether they are better off materially than the urban working poor.
(D) In an assessment of the problems faced by rural migrant workers, the question of whether they are better off materially than the urban working poor is irrelevant.
(E) The question of whether the rural migrant worker is better off materially than the urban working poor is irrelevant in an assessment of the problems that they face.

To me only B & E appears wrong (because of 'they')... Please come up with resons for selecting a particular option.

Thanks,
ashish

To me D seems the best...

A) "In" should be followed by a noun

(B) ambiguity in "they"

(C) "a question " is wrong , seems to change meaning

(E) ambiguity in "they"

Thanks RJT ...
i never noticed the stress put on 'Question' than on 'assessment' in option (C). So (C) is also out...
I could not get your reason for discarding (A). we generally use sentences like "In moving to Delhi (or any place)" ... is it wrong ... Can u plz explain with some examples...

Hi Ashish!

i agree a and d are pretty close ...
(d) prbably coz it sounds more right than anything else...

thought of it this way..
"in my view"
"in an anlysis of"

Can somebody else throw some light?
