5.(B) | @ neversaydie,getintoiimb,naresh007 : congrats all correct answers.
ne one of u can go ahead and post some verbal questions.
here goes the xplanations.
1. Choice D is best. The phrasing a divorce that occurred when they were children correctly uses the relative clause that occurred to modify a divorce and includes a pronoun and verb (they were) that refer unambiguously to their antecedent, men and women.
Choice 'A' inappropriately uses the when phrase with occurring.thus relates the divorce to a child -- which is illogical. also singular child doesn't agree with the plural men and women.
Choice 'B' uses children but again usage of when is improper.
same with the choice 'C'.
Choice 'E' -- usage of has occurred is improper and each doen't properly refer to men and women. 2. Choice 'C' is the best option.
Choice 'A' & 'B' usage of have doesn't agree with the singular subject number. The absence of an area in B and E impairs clarity: the phrase beginning with about must modify a noun such as area that is logically equivalent to the number of acres given. In D and E up to is unidiomatic; the correct expres*sion is from x to y. In D, the size of Colorado's is unidiomatic, since of Colorado forms a complete possessive. "Tonight is a really special night for me - it was a dream for me just to play for Sao Paulo and one game for Brazil. But the Bible says God can give you more than you even ask for." 3. Clearly 'B' with the help of parallelism. "Tonight is a really special night for me - it was a dream for me just to play for Sao Paulo and one game for Brazil. But the Bible says God can give you more than you even ask for." 4.
For parallelism, the linking verb is should link two infinitives: The only way to salvage ... is to process. Choice A begins with an infinitive, but the plural pronouns them and they do not agree with the singular noun citrus. Choices B, C, and D do not begin with an infinitive, and all present pronoun errors: the plural pronouns cannot grammatically refer to citrus or fruit, nor can they refer to farmers without absurdity. The best choice, E, has parallel infinitives and uses fruit to refer unambiguously to citrus. E also expresses the cause-and-effect relationship between the return of warmer weather and the rotting of the fruit; A, C, and D merely describe these events as contemporaneous. "Tonight is a really special night for me - it was a dream for me just to play for Sao Paulo and one game for Brazil. But the Bible says God can give you more than you even ask for." 5.
Choices A, C, and E do not state the comparison logically. The expression as old as indicates equality of age, but the sentence indicates that the Brittany monuments predate the Mediterranean monuments by 2,000 years. In B, the best choice, older than makes this point of comparison clear. B also correctly uses the adjective supposed, rather than the adverb supposedly used in D and E, to modify the noun phrase Mediterranean predecessors. "Tonight is a really special night for me - it was a dream for me just to play for Sao Paulo and one game for Brazil. But the Bible says God can give you more than you even ask for." Hi All, Apart frm exercises that dedicated puys are posting, from today onwards, I would be posting a few points on the practical usage of English. I would update it every now and then. Please go through it on a daily basis and learn as much as you can...happy reading Let' start:- beside and besides Beside is a preposition meaning 'at the side of', 'by' or 'next to' Why is the cat sitting beside the chair? Besides is used when we add new information to what is already known. Besides aerobics, I have to do crunches and push ups. Besides can also be used as a discourse marker meaning 'also', 'in any case',and 'as well'. It is often used to add a stronger, more conclusive argument to what has gone before. In this case, besides usually goes at the beginning of the clause. It's too late to go out now. Besides, it's starting to rain. I don't like this dress; besides,it's too expensive. Tarun PS: let me know if u think that theses posts wont be useful
