I took the GRE in the 1st sem of the 4th year in Engg. That was the time when most of the ppl were giving their GRE/TOEFL. There were quite a few mediocre scores in verbal. So I talked to a few people on how they approached their prep. Most of them had the word list by heart. This was the only prep they had put in for Verbal. I took a few diagnostic tests and boy, the verbal section really blew my head off. But I had observed one important thing- that GRE is not about words, its about conquering the RC section.
For a person who has a decent reading speed, time will not be a constraint in GRE. Hence most of my time was devoted to solving sample tests, specially RCs. I took care to understand the import of each and every sentence so that I could get the hidden subtleties. My word list prep was also pretty decent in that I wrote the words in a jumbled manner in a different paper and revised from that so that I dont get accustomed to the order of the words.
So focussing on the RC will definite boost your verbal score. It doesnt mean that you need to get everything right, but practise will imrove your comprehension.
All the best Puys,
And my final GRE score: QA: 800 VA: 690 Total: 1490 AWA: 4.5
I can do better than that .......all i need is to "think" !!!
