Why do people drink alcohol and smoke when its bad???? - 08-06-2005, 05:02 PM

Hi guys.
I tried to search for a thread where teetollers and non-smokers like me can express our views regarding the bad habits of consuming alcohol or smoking.
But didn't find one.

So, moi starting with this one.

As of me, I don't do anything without any valid reason and no one ever convinced me with a valid reason for getting into these habits.
Why to do use something which the company says is bad fo me?

If not us, who? If not now, when?

I think the answer lies in my questions:

1> why do we live in a polluted city when we can go to a desolate village and fill our lungs with pure air?

2> Why do we live such a stressful life when we can choose to go for an easier life which satisfies our needs?

Piyush,we all need some "highs" in our lives and support system.I smoke and drink, but never advocate smoking(drinking is fine for me).But many of us need it,to keep us running.

on a funnier note: the natural process of our body is to decay,by smoking and drinking we are helping the nature's cause. Why go against the nature and exercise, preserve our body???

Rohit, we live in a polluted city because we don't have another option.

.
We can choose easier life but what about our ambitions and goals and aspirations and productivity?
Humans are meant to grow and evolve.
We are constantly trying to bring up the issue of pollution and are finding ways to eliminate them.
We know that it is wrong and we are trying to curb it.
Can this thing be really compared with the smoking problem?

Why we can't we run our life on some real things?
A vehicle that is run on kerosene only damages its engines and pollutes the environment.
Compare it with the high octane petrol and diesel avalaible. They really keep them running FOR LONG.

So although one may smoke to keep himself running, but whats the use if he can't run long enough?

i guess it's jus one of those things....

-some have it jus 4 the sake of tryin evrythin in life...

-some do it to get out of depression...very ol' hindi movie formula

-some think it's macho

-and i guess for the rest of the ppl....it's a plain simple ordinary stuff....i mean outside India if u ask this question...u will be considered a dinosaur... i mean why even outside India...even here...ppl are pretty chilled about it...

this is no more an issue i guess...i mean have it..... enjoy it ...forget it..

but yes...i guess addiction pro'ly not healthy....4 tht matter any kinda addiction

but otherwise...take a chill pill....AND BY THE WAY...IT'S NOT 'BAD' :grab:
