Its Alpha Honey! ;-) - 06-05-2005, 10:31 AM

Dood ..as you yourself said, its and Alpha version..and these are only test versions to test the OS and correct the bugs.

These versions are to get cases like yours and other bugs

So pls do not put your important data on these OSes!

When the final version comes around, there should be no cases like yours(hopefully!)

Cheers

Ankur

Lesson of the day -- When u play with alpha beta and gamma versions of software...u play at ur own risk.Be patient and wait for the official release before installing it.Please do not bad mouth products which havent released yet.

@Illuminatus -- I work at MS buddy so I know wot I m talking abt.As for the 1 and half yr thing u mentioned.....well I m not so sure abt that.

Agree. guys know what the prob is?? Windows makes u think in a different way and linux in totally different. Win is great if u are a newbie while Linux is not, again i emphasise, i talk abt linux like Red hat 7, dunno abt the later ones coz havnt tried, so all comments only till that; mayb Linux came up with simpler things, me have no idea, it lost me with few yrs ago.
I dont criticize Longhorn, but Microsoft Windows as whole; u think ur comp slows down after a bit or some spy progs keep running in background- u may very well think u got virus or what. But isnt that what MS is doing in all Windows? i am fed up with these default ON settings. After installation u gotta make lot of changes in Advanced tabs and basic things like simple search without that doggie is put under the line 'only for the advanced users', wow!! Win takes its users as Dennis while other OS as Calvin, no doubt why 'Windows for dummies' became a hot cake

& after a long time i was using this IE yesterday and see theres this Windows Messenger, wondering if that was abt some local network messeging what i see is a MSN messenger, gosh!!

Although there are issues with Panther, but its still my bet any day. Difference btw it and windows OS is that of an administrator and a dictator

PS: As written earlier, using alpha/beta versions u r just finding bugs for the developer, so dnt cry if u mess ur things up

Agreed that it was my fault playing with an alpha version and loasing all dat crap data...but the whole point is that the present or the archaic versions of Windows weren't giving me the best of times either. Murtuza, dont even tell me that u never had those irritating times when u didn't know where all ur system resources were going...or when prolly u were in the middle of an important assignment or a report...Mr. Explorer.exe jus decides to give up on you!!

Cmon man....all of us have faced these kind of things...so thr's no running away from it....jus be flexible enough to give Linux, or other OSs fr that matter, a fair chance!

@ Illuminatus - I don't really know which version or flavour of linux u were using. See, obviously i don't expect u to install Slackware or Gentoo on ur first go. But I think it's high time u just had a glance on the newer versions ala Mandrake 10.2 or SuSe 9.2 ...These flavours rock bigtime...and there's jus no diff from Windoze..(except of course for all the flexibility and power lying beneath the interface .....but then of course u dont HAVE to use them)

peace folks...FE

Exception (Fatal Error) Bhai aap ne to Processor (Dil) pe le lee yaar . Everybody has experienced Windows crashes, including all Microsofties. We cannot just keep on saying bad things abt Windows, it is good - can be better. I know that, you know that and Billu (Gates) knows that. Nothing is perfect in this world, not even Linux.

People say that Linux doesn't crash, I have crashed it myself. It's just a piece of source code like Windows, it's not out of this world. Linux is safe as long as there are not too many users (no incentive for the hackers), but if it starts getting popular, believe me it will have a zillion virus attacks and million crashes everyday (Becoz of the fact that everybody has the source code, so much easier to understand the working).

I am not against Linux, but I believe too many people badmouth Microsoft all the time without praising the kind of work it has done in the area of IT. We need to give support to all the players including MS and Linux, don't just crib all the time.

I hope this settles this issue.
Cheers!
