Linux is as easy to get hold of as Windows (Both are available in Nehru Place for Rs 50/-

), but Compatibility is a big issue. The Newer versions are good, but I have had the privellege of working on some Pre-Historic versions of Linux - they even asked you to manually enter the Frequency of your monitor

. We had Linux in our curriculum and my system got formatted 3 times because of that Stupid piece of Open source. Latest version of Linux is good but still there are a lot of compatibility problems - your Modem may not work (you will have to write your own Driver to use the Modem

). A large number of Application s/w are available for Linux (like StarOffice from Sun Microsystems which is as good if not better than MS Office), but Windows versions of those s/w are also available. Linux is good, but only if you are a hardcore geek. A normal computer usually has a hard time working on Linux. The Best thing - Get both Linux and Windows installed on your system (At one time I had Windows 98, Windows XP and Red Hat Linux 7 all working at the same time on my PC

but I got rid of Linux as my Modem never worked on it

)
Windows sucks, but currently Linux sucks more
