hey bharathi...if i remember right, u were the one whose interest was in solving puzzles, right?? here's one....its from the folks at IBM....so it is good, for sure .. ..those folks post one puzzle per month.... solutions drop in from all over the world...and in case u feel like u've got the soln and mail them, they make it a point to get back to you.....

u have 12 balls with you..out of them 1 is defective..but then u dont know if it is lighter or heavier..u have 3 tries to use a Balance to weigh the balls only.. find out the defective one..

forgot to add to the previous post.....i'd already posted this somewhere...but if it is puzzles that u are after....the newsgroup rec.puzzles and rec.puzzles.crossword are two of the best newsgroups..... u'll need access to a news server for that which u can get thro' news://newscache3.freenet.de .....(read access only).....

I've seen this problem in one of those Shakuntala Devi series of books. Couldn't solve it, but just noted the answer!
