financial engineering v/s mba - 26-10-2004, 01:10 AM

hi ,

Does anyone has knowledge of financial engineering courses ...how can they help you if you wanna be in stock market/hedge funds/financial institution or be a fund manager??

does the regular 2 year mba course include financial engineering in depth ???

i am quite keen on knowing about this field and future prospects. I am a chartered accountant and working for the big4...

wht should i do to gain insight and later on expertise in this field ??

regards

Willmott forums are a great source to get started on your question. They have some awesome contributors there.

I only have this to share about FE in USA. I understand that if you turn out to be any good at it, *Financial Engineering is big time money on Wall Street (atleast). But you really have to be very very good at Math and from what i understand, FE is very sophisticated math. You will be what they call a "Quant" on Wall Street. *I am sorry i only have info about US schools, but Haas at UC-Berkeley is one school you might want to strongly consider for FE. I know a student there if you need specific help.

Schools strong in finance may offer more electives in the financial engineering area as part of MBA coursework, but i could be wrong.

Again, willmott will be a good place to get detailed info.

Hope this helps
Htown

dear vibhore,
hi,i am sanajay,a newbie PaGaL.i want to tell you that financial enigneering course is available in India.i t's offered by Indian Institute of Capital Markets(Formerly known as UTI Institute of Capital Markets). it's offerd at IICM through securities institute of australia.you can check the site utiicm.com and securities.edu.au.
securities institute of australia is a very reputed institute.you can do this course directly from securities institute through distance learning. you will get all the support like e-learning and tutorials etc.there'a shortage of these kind of institute, very soon National Institute of Securities Market will come into operation.it's being set up by SEBI.SEBI got this idea of this institute from securities institute.and now go through the websites and let me know.
