Univ. and will be shifting base to chennai from august 7 since my company Birlasoft has put me there. there are a coupla guys with me. i wanted to know are places easily available for rent. and wat wud u advise PGs or flats. what i mean by PG is we on top and the owner below separately with assistance for food. my company is in T NAGAR. are dabbawalas also available? i am lookin for a place ,within 5 kms radius of t nagar. i heard t nagar is costly. what do u say?

also the moment i speak of chennai, people keep reminding me of the humid weather. it cant be all that bad rit guys? plz gimme good opinions about the weather finally if someone is aware of places of stay do mail me the address of the place.

is there anyone from IMS chennai as well. i do need directions for reaching the place where classes are held there.

thanks a million

its true that weather is bad comparitively but its not the worst.

Yes T nagar is costly and in T nagar u may end up staying as PG or in mansion because taking a house there for rent would be costly.
I suggest u take a house in some other places

T.Nagar is quite costly..But u can stay in West Mambalam...I dont know the exact position of ur office..But any how u wont face any problem in going to T.Nagar from West Mambalam...If 3 to 4 people are willing to stay together ,then u can get a decent flat at 5000 - 6000...While taking the flat for rent make sure that u get water 24 hrs a day...it shouldn't be the case that u have to run for water....
Now about weather..yeah , its quite hot specially summers..As bcos u r coming from Bangalore u will really like the weather more ...
regarding dabbawala..what kind of food u want???If u like south Indian u will get lot ..If u like to have north Indian food, then u have to put lot of fight to look for North Indian dabba...and still it will be difficult to get complete north Indian dabbas...
About IMS,they conduct the classes at Stella Maris College in Cathedral Road...It is quite near to T.Nagar..

Well guys, remember my post in the other thread about the whereabouts of nungambakkam and how to get there ? well its so turned out that I did get the job and will be moving to chennai !! 1 month back I hadn't thought in my wildest dreams that chennai would be the place I would be moving to after my graduation !! But life is full or surprises

well i just wanted to know if I would be able to rent out a flat in nungambakkam area (whether its expensive) or some closeby area. also let me know abt the water situation in these areas. the last time I went to chennai, though there was water, it seemed like sea-water to me - very HARD and salty - too difficult to bathe or wash clothes.

also about the travelling - will I need to buy a 2-wheeler ?

will appreciate inputs of any kind...

cheers

the freak

PS - I wont be giving CAT for another couple of yrs. Would like to work a while. Will think about MBA later

Just when I thought I am the type who doesnot get easily surprised....

As far as I know the concept of "PG" accomodation is not in full swing in chennai..ppl still prefer renting out houses...though Chennai is well connected two wheeler wouldn't be a bad idea. No comments abt the weather! check out FREEADS for the houses. you should get more info and try to avoid brokers.

Girish...!

Hi

Try Vadapalani and West mambalam. U get some Mansions in T.Nagar also. Its costly when u stay in Proper residential area of T.Nagar. If u go for mansion, then u cannot expect more space but it works out to be cheap. But W A T E R - u cant find it plenty in Chennai.

So watch out for

Water
Space
Transport

Anyway u will end up spending 1000 pm for Stay, water, Elec ... others. Food Transport ur Expenses all extra. Chennai is HOT true ! is ok a lot of people live here.

Enjoy ! Bye

Can I expect to get a 2 BR flat on rent in nungambakkam area within 2K/month ? or is that too optimistic ?

also can someone tell me how to read the auto-rickshaw meter in chennai ? (incase some "good" fellow volunteers to accept payment by meter )

cheers

A 2 bed room flat for 2k rent in numgambakkam??? Sure! If you are also ready to get engaged to the house owner's daughter:P even that is a bit doubtful....!

If you have a vehicle and you want a decent locality you can try out Annanagar west...it is abt 4 km from nungambakkam. ( That is where I used to live) Decent and affordable restaurants with almost all types of cuisine. Still a 2 bedroom flat for 2k is wishful thinking! If you search arnd you might get one for 3k....sans the daughter goodluck..
