aaah.....'tis been a real long time since i've started any thread

so here goes what i could make out of modding India's most vibrant community over the past 15odd months......

simply put, it has been a REAL eye-opener......in ways more than one....having been associated with various boards across the web, frankly speaking, i was never really gung-ho about the way indian BBs function....more so that involve the youth, be it for whatever purpose....However my initial xp with PaGaLGuY.com made me rethink whatever notions i had....here was a buncha enthusiastic people that got together for the purpose of cracking an examination and the close rapport they shared really touched a chord......and unlike most new junta here nowadays, i joined the board the very same day i gotta know of it!! and since then it's been nothin short of a revelation everyday....

Modding PaGaLGuY.CoM .......well, to begin with...i'd say thats a fine example of an oxymoron (no, not girish!!)have stressed many a time and will say this once again....the mods on the board exist for the sole purpose of providing an orderly atmosphere in which the community can thrive...and in trying to provide this atmosphere, it is quite, but natural, that we step on someone or the other's toes every now and then..however, that in no way means we have anything personal with the said member (as opposed to user!!)anyways...i guess enough has been said abt that already

Prolly the biggest advantage of being a mod on such a popular site is it can do wonders to your acceptance levels offline

you get to occasionally see the other side of posters....and blv me, from xp, i can tell u...the other side ain't exactly a pale reflection of their oft-seen side !!

I've seen posts aplenty from members askin me not to lock their threads...infact some even pleading !!!my reply......aah..ur guess is as good as mine

and yea, not to forget the brickbats too.....have to deal with plenty of PMs, IMs, mails n posts that question the decision to edit posts or lock topics....some very straight-forward in wanting to know why.....and some!!!!....boy o boy.....never realized that locking/editing posts results in people feeling SO violated.....its like their tongue has been pricked in public

, which, to put it in black n white, ain't the fact of the case......have seen plenty of users (as opposed to members, in this case) cry hoarse.....to all of them....GROW UP....there's life beyond ur myopic vision....and there are loadsa things u guys can assimilate from such a vibrant board, first of all, humility !!

and yea, it ain't all that bad too....like we keep hearing.....the biggest advantage of being an active member on such a board is the kinda access one gets to ppl across various segments.....bschoolers, working ppl, under-grads, the lounge-types

and a whole plethora of 'em.... I've certainly enjoyed every second of bein a part of this wonderful community...i know thousands of others too have.....

and modding the forums along with good pals like allwin, anil, chandoo and sowmya has been one of the best experiences i've had in a long time....i know, the rest of us pale in comparison with the amount of modding anil has done on the forum...but neverthless i guess we too occasionally peep in

and one of the funniest parts is, loadsa ppl on the forum dont recognize me as a mod

was recently being advised by a member that i keep my suggestions to myself coz if anything's amiss, then the mods on the forum are sure to rectify it !!!

but that suggestion in itself was heartening to hear coz its good to see that members recognize the efforts that ppl like chandoo, anil n sowmya are putting into this place, apart from their valuable time and have faith in that

...err..and to a much smaller extent, me too

Have always wanted to thank Allwin for the faith he has reposed in me and more specifically for setting up this wonderful board.....here's a warm ThanQ PG bhai..... hopefully plans of making this place THE most talked of and THE most utilitarian fructify !! stick around folks......sure is gonna be real fun in the days to come

If it wasn't for that P.S. I was almost certain that u were washing u'r hands off the job. Got myself ready with a couple of tissues and sorts(kidding!

). I haven't been long enough in this forum to call myself a regular but looks as if I'm going to enjoy my days ov'here. Good modding carry on the job buddy.

Read ur post word-by-word. So, I feel, I deserve some doubt-clarification... Kindly enlighten this ignorant being, as to wot is a "BB"... also, kindly spare some time, regarding ur definition of a "member" n a "user"...

well some opportunity to thank the mods ...ROCK ON GUYS...we all know of the trouble you ppl take especially when only surfing PG and glancing all the posts (or those tht r relevant ) takes aruond 1-1.5 hrs daily...i can imagine reading evry post and modding it can mean huge time spends...

. I can understand your experiences and do agree with almost all of them

When we did start off, I was in 2 minds. As you said, the horrible kind of posting our junta usually does on the other BBs we have seen - so I wasn't really very sure of getting it 'right' from the start. Second , was the quality sustainability part. Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved and most importantly the awesome junta we have here - both have worked out just right

You are right about the 'thread locking' issue. I too get PMs calling me 'illogical' , 'childish' and .. around 10 PMs asking me for clarification to a locked thread. People do take it very personally

. I hope they see the efforts we put in and also the understanding of a community which we have, based on the time frame we guys have been around

But the good outweighs the bad a 1000 times over here. Sure I ban someone once a while, keep the deranged nuts from this place et al , but that has become a necessity. I remember the first guy we banned and remember how bad it felt to ban someone. I didn't want to. Ah.. the community feeling per se, has never let me down.

We are probably one of the rarest forums to actually organize meets .. making the online world look much safer

.. and hell.. the community service initiatives are simply amazing

People who you've never met - end up working for a common cause

Anil has modded the max and the forum feels lonely without him

Plus , can't stress enough - I've met amazing people through the board! I've learnt a lot

.. We had the mumbai meet and the next week the bangalore meet .. Ended up meeting 70+ people in 8 days
