Just don't start shooting off without having the proper background or adequate knowledge. Sainthood is given to a very very select few in the Christian Religion and given to people who have lived exemplary lives or dedicated their lives to the sevice of others. Don't demean it by saying it's a strategy of sorts. In the modern world there are so few people who can come close let alone being declared Saints, THAT is why there was so much attention given to the beatification ceremony.
Would appreciate if you don't involve religion in this discussion

PS: Is it only me or did someone else too spot the irony in the writeup . All along he tells us that we are good we should not demean ourselves and the entire tone of that writeup is as if Indians don't know what is good for them. Statements like "...Indian are so ignorant...etc" "Wake up India" only lend credence to the fact.

Firstly, I think mother teresa was not european .. but from north africa ..from albania to be precise ..
I am myself pretty dark but guys whats the use debating abt it .. i do believe that to my eyes at least fairness and beautyare related to a large extent ..if the question was "Is beauty so imp?" i would say no .. but fairness does add to beauty.
I dont know if this should have been a part of the confessions thread .. but my first crush was long back ..I can remember it from the time I was in class III ... of course its only now that i CALL it a crush ..
Well the point here is that this girl on whom a lot many others also had a crush was very fair ..and no i won't blame the media for my feelings at that point of time!!!!

Come on kiddos... Sonia being in the forefront... becos shes a 'firang'.. come on.. Grow up!!!
I thought the whole article was just bullC***.. thats me .. & i too have an opinion... BTW... info needed.. one is Aishwarya.. who is the other... my knowledge is bad on these....
Read about ppl having views about 'Fair& Lovely'.. someone said.. these ads must be banned!!!
Do u have any idea how much that cream is popular is down south india!! U really dont come from a very poor family with 4 daughters and incidentally, they all are dark...& they need to get married to some nice guy out there... their only chance of playing 'fair' are these creams...I still see my maid's daughters using those creams... what are u talking about... Fairness creams are usually targetted at the lower strata of the society where it is revered!!!
Cheers!!!

| In the course or his pontificate, from 1978 until today, John Paul II has beatified 1,299 persons, 1,029 of whom were martyrs, while he has canonised 464, of whom 401 were martyrs. http://www.ad2000.com.au/articles/20...3p13_1407.html
Don't just say now that its a sangh parivar propaganda .. it is true and its a fact.
This does not take away anything from the great work Mother Teresa has done ... and I am more than just sure that her intentions were charity alone and not "spreading christianity" ...
Sorry for the digression(?) from the topic ..

Patronizing fairness in the open? And punishing people for being born dark, for a 'mistake' they never intended to do? No way! You're patronizing the 'class'sim that's already prevalent. This is no different from segregating people as Upper class and lower class.
More than the color factor, it fuels the 'inferiority complex' among people. Put 1000 ads everyday stating or hinting that black is ugly, and whilte is godly. You'll see 1000 suicides. (a hyperbole, ofcourse )
The point is: The ads should atleast aim at easing things. It should atleast refrain from hurting a certain sect um of people... keep informed that every sensical guy knows that he can't change is complexion using this cream.... Quote: |

that was really a great article....
now coming to the point that most of the janta is discussing here... the fair an lovely cream issue and other views reagrding the colour of ones skin...
well indian society has always been fanatic of white skin..... it is not that by telivision adds alone the mentality of the people in the indian society has changed....
in fact what i would say is that these companies have done their homework and are pretty confident that most of the indian people love having a fiar skin...so just putting the blame on these advts is not fair....
more over these things cannot be stopped by just by imposing a ban on the add... when the society accepts that dark people are also beautiful and handsome then there will no longer be a demand for these products...
so what really has to be changed is the mentality of the indian society rather that the media indian media ************************************************** ***

good article???...i have my reservations...
the people pleadin to sonia coz she is white is a bit far fetched...she is an "INDIAN".....if some1 cant get this small ,really really basic thing into his/her mind..it cant be helped....
n the talk abt mother teresa/kolkata/poor people/strvin people etc etc....which big populous city doesnt have this....which city doesnt have its own share of beggars,,,the guy is fom france....rite...every1 in paris, marsielle is a rich, prosperous person...no beggars at all???
if some1 prefers to link mother teresa to all poor people n then form a opinion of INDIA INDIANS...then its his choice...goes to show wat kind of "vision " they have... "...BACKWARDS understood be only can but forwards lived be must life" - Kierkegaard Soren ....KEEP WALKING

Everyone knows that the society has such an inclination towards 'fairness'. But, what do we try to correct it, in the larger scheme of things? Again and again allowing such ads is just fuelling the issue.
And then, most (the rural masses atleast) of the Indian society believes that having a son is better than a daughter . [It isnt my stand - just the majoritys']. So, why do we and feminists fret when an ad hints this in the open? THis is a double standard. Quote: |
