It might be too early to say so, but Chrome's growing market share hasn't really affected IE (so far).
On the contrary, it seems that it has taken a bite out of Firefox and Safari's respective market shares. Ever since Chrome was launched, the only browser whose market share has actually grown is IE. Firefox and Safari have reportedly lost market share. Read here.
Interesting, ain't it?
Also, reading up reviews on the net, makes me realize that IE has never been the best browser, but IE8 is a massive improvement over the last few versions. In fact, if Microsoft can pull off a few more innovations, it might continue to be the frontrunner. And yes, given Google's propensity to turn into another Microsoft, I'd rather stick with Microsoft products. | | | | | The Following 4 Users Say Thank You to sumitrocks For This Useful Post:

And yes, given Google's propensity to turn into another Microsoft, I'd rather stick with Microsoft products. | Well Microsoft did good homework about the google chrome and firefox. Hence, the new IE 8 beta 2 is much robust, secure and more flexible then its predecessor.
All the IE fans/users will definitly love to have IE 8 and as tactic, Microsoft will obviously sell IE 8 or may be 9 with Windows 7 (the next edition).
But MS knows that Google is very quick to adapt and hence, they will keep a close eye on Google as IE's next version will take sometime but google will much faster to react and reach markets.
Bottomline is: IE 8 looks good for now, but watch out for Google in future. | | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to rmbt For This Useful Post:

Google Chrome is out and how can I afford not posting in this thread being a web developer .
Key features of Chrome.
1. Separate process for each tabs unlike other browsers.
2. You can view the memory consumed by each tab and kill any of them whenever required. It is just like what we do through task manager.
3. The browser does not crash if one of the tabs is unable to load and taking hell lot of time to load the page.
4. List goes on.............
Moreover it is also open source - the source is available to be downloaded and compiled. They want ideas to flow from across the world to improve its performance.
There is comic explaining their implementation decisions etc. Google Chrome. It is about 40 pages, but interesting to see what they are doing. It looks like their answer to everything is processes.
I am sure they will definitely outperform IE as we can see the current situation of rediff and yahoo mail as compared to Gmail.

A lot has been said about Chrome here, in the last few days. But, somehow, I'm rather sceptical of it, because what Microsoft has been to computers, Google is becoming, to the web.
Firstly, the good news. Google has fixed the EULA, which seemed to give it unlimited control over our data. One of the legal folks at Google has attributed that clause to 'incorrect copy and paste'. And that clause stand null and void. Thankfully.
Read it here.
Now, for my reasons for being sceptical of Chrome, and preferring others:
1) I'm confident google will go out of the way to tweak its search engine and somehow make it suitable only for its own browser. So, something like 'If you wanna use google.com, you gotta use Chrome' might come our way.
2) Till now, Mozilla and Google were collaborating to push Firefox. What happens next? Do they stay together, target different market segments, or go to war?
3) I value my privacy, and I'm already very sick of google tracking so much of what I do on the net. Won't Chrome take away whatever little privacy is left with me?
4) I fully expect Microsoft to fight back with some customised web applications. So much so, that sites designed for IE may not work correctly in Chrome, and vice versa.
5) Ads!!!! Google earns so much through its ads. Won't Chrome become another way of pushing ads at us?
6) IE8 is a huge improvement over IE6/IE7. That clearly shows that Microsoft is committed to the browser business, and will probably make further improvements to protect its 70%+ market share. So maybe, the battle ain't over yet.
Personally, the combination of Opera and IE8 is working fine for me, and I'd recommend Opera to most people. But, the views expressed above, are mine alone, and I'm not much of a techie, so please bear with any silly errors that I may have made. And if you have anything that you differ with, please do enlighten me.
P.S. Kris, I experiment a lot, and play around with all kinds of software on my machine. I switched to IE after IE7 came out, and I'm still using it. But I guess while your point is true, the other side of the coin is that some people use Firefox/Safari/Opera just to appear nerdy to others, and be cool.

There are few more things like no support for devanagari font, we cannot disable javascript as there is no menu bar (atleast not in a user friendly way)...
