My take:

Sections 3 with 50 questions each.Total marks 150.
mark:+1,-1/4
options:5

Surprise: cat back to the old format.
difficculty level: 70 % of the prob will be tough or average difficulty. We can expect only 30% of prob as easy.

The cutoffs(for atleast 3 calls) will be

quant:9marks (total 50 marks)
DI:10 marks(total 50 marks)
English:18marks(total 50 marks)

Now my logic: Since most of us have got used to the lesser no. of questions in the Mocks, i believe IIMs will love to surprise us with a huge number of questions. This way, it'll go back to the 95-99 pattern of huge no. of questions of lesser difficulty level (obvious right ).

Also, we might see sectional time limits for group of sections viz. 1 hr for VA, RC and 1.5 hr for QA, DI and LR.

X-Factor: All types of questions appearing indirectly helping people who have gone through the older papers indirectly .

And yeah by DI i mean calculation intensive sets .
This one would blow away many of us!
though I am in favour of this X factor, i doubt that IIMs would revert to the past formats... the needs of the hour are changing..
still, the exam would prove to be quite a stormer !!

Pattern No. 2 from mu side:

No. of questions : 45 (15 per section)...5 marks per question

Each question will have 2 sub questions.
2 marks for each sub question. 1 mark extra if both the sub questions are correct. Extra -1 if both of them are wrong

Negatives: Selectivity
Positives: Shock....not many of us are expecting number of ques to decrease

Cheers!

No of questions :99 (33 each section)
Marking: +3/-1
Options : 5
VA/RC No Ambiguity but still VERY TOUGH
DI New Age DI far lesser than what the mocks have had.
One set on calculations+One set on a huge table+One tough LR +One new format DI+DS
Quants More of tricky problems, lesser calculations involved.Ver few "Tough" problems.Basically will test Time Management and Self Control

Surprise Factor :Why should it have a surprise?Anyhow the Institutes and the media will project it as so

Total 3 sections . 20 questions per section , Total 60 questions. Wrong attempt will get you penalty of 0.33 marks & sahi attempts me se kuchh shayad IIM ka reader machine pehchan na paye.

1 section will be very easy. 1 will be moderated difficult. 3rd one will be toughest ever. Shayad english ka section hi na ho

All paper will have 4-5 mistakes at least. Attempt those wrong questions & forget about admission into IIMs. 60 me se 15 questions pata nahi kar pate ho ki galat hai

Seriously Nai Lene ka . nacho nacho

Re: Unwind Yourself - CAT 2007 Format Speculations, Discussions - 09-11-2007, 11:23 PM

Pattern No. 3 ( a really nice one)

No. of questions : 90....+15 bonus questions ( 5 bonus ques in each section..very very easy ones)

You are free to attempt main 90 questions (30 per section).
Then comes the RISK and Decision factor. In a section, there will be 5 bonus qs. You will get positive marks for bonus qs only if u have scored more than 95% in a section. If ur %in that section is less than 95, then u will get negative for each bonus qs u attempt. Now u will have to decide if u want to attempt the bonus qs or not

Negatives: Your bad luck if u score a 94-94.99 in a section
Positives: It will be a good paper. A test of managerial skills - Risk & Calculated prediction

Cheers!

Hers's my take on CAT 07 pattern

No. of Ques: total 45 (15 per section)
Marking Scheme: +4/-1

The X Factor: Multiple options correct.

I think this time number of questions this time would be around 30-35 in each section. Not lesser than 25.Negative marking 1+ -1/4-DI- Going to be toughQuant- MediumEnglish - Medium(May be Grammer & CR questions might reappear) FIJ won't comes in every mock contain FIJ. Mostly paper would be on the line of 2004.
