Your concern is valid only if man_friday and yadirf_nam both rated you..

In any case even if a system is devised where ratings by banned users are scrapped, how will temporary suspensions be handled. And what if suspension is revoked..

All the trouble is not worth the effort as if ratimgs become popular, one or two miscreants will hardly matter and if not, why bother about an un-popular thing.

I agree that it is a relevant doubt...I wouldnt like it one bit if a clone chose to pick on me just to screw my rating..!!!!

But hey....just getting rid of ratings given by a clone/banned user/suspended puy etc etc is not the solution for this.. Coz although there may be puys like you who have suffered coz of the "clone's" indiscretion....there will be many others who might owe their good ratings to the very same "clone"...
Ok..u may say that prejudice might be the reason for the good rating...but then again...Not everyone can be so wicked as to purely create an ID merely to screw a specific user/set of users...(I know there are exceptions...But I am trying to sound diplomatic here... )...
Perhaps man-friday or his clone have also given good ratings to other users when they genuinely deserved it...They wouldnt exactly be leaping with joy if those ratings were deleted because someone else wasnt as lucky/fortunate as they were....

& yes...Dont read too much into ratings...PG was good even before the ratings came in... Only shallow puys (which I obviously am not ) will read into your ratings...

A broad-minded poster is capable of appreciating quality when he sees it on his own...he doesnt need no ratings to tell him who is good & who isnt...

I guess, the clone shouldn't be given the benefit of doubt. I mean, it's clone afterall. It's like jailing a thief for his crimes but letting him keep the stolen money with it

These new features only seem to be adding to unwanted and unwelcome emotions setting onto the forums..

Friends, why shud anyone attach soooo much importance and sentimentality to ratings/thanks/groans? Come on, ppl.. its jus another feature.. in no way can it reflect what a person is worth!

Earlier there was a points system on PG.. some time after it was discontinued, a 'karma' system was introduced - where users got to rate posts with +/- 1 karma units
And now u have this thank/groan system plus the newly introduced ratings system.. one fine day, this too shall get dismantled.. what the heck?!

Enjoy it if u can, but its not worth breaking into a sweat, heightening tempers, furrowing ur brows or damaging ur acquaintances/equations irreparably..

I wasnt referring to the situation from the "clone"s (or as u put it...the "thief"'s )perspective...

Think about it this way...
Say a Clone X (an entirely random case) makes 10 ratings... 5 of them are bogus & are meant to screw up someone else's ratings for whatever reason... & 5 other ratings are entirely genuine & meant to appreciate someone's good posts...

So what do u do with the "clone"in such a case..?? Reprimand him for the 5 bogus ratings...or let the ratings stay on so that the 5 users who got fair ratings from him dont lose their ratings..???

Well... I am not the one to decide...

I say we quit this trivial debate... Its time we stuck to a set of changes for a little while...once again making changes/deletions etc might not be welcomed by all the puys.. (For instance, the last time changes were incorporated...all the previous comments were deleted..That was pretty annoying..!!!)

When everyone agrees that there isnt much to talk abt ratings...why bother with changing whats already been done..?!?!?!

Well...I agree that many of the thanks/groans are given with prejudices in mind... & that sometimes u get thanked just coz u have made an awesome post earlier or coz the puy agrees with u & the opposite in case of groans...

But I just cant think of a more convenient way to show my appreciation for a good post (which is very important to get more good posts outta the guy) or to let someone know that his/her post sucks..!!!
Besides....just having plain posts which look similiar with nothing to differentiate them in terms of how well they have been received seems a rather boring idea to me...
