hmm...
but as curtz said it is not possible to keep the discussion to just PG meet.
there might be many who wld want to use this forum as a way to directly interact with PG members.
i found the information about admit card to IMS test very useful.
bharath
P.S- i know this is to be posted on the forum, but i am trying to avoid doing so till the issue is resolved

No system in the world will keep sending the same message for over 25 times. Also, the message keeps arriving after other messages have arrived. I think this is an issue with the spammer only.
I remember this was a possibility in the Nokia 3310-15 series of cell phones. The number stayed in the send to box, so the message went as many times as you kept pressing the 'Send' button. My friends received a one word 'kumudchandra' message 150 times in one hour.
Anyways, more clues than not point to the presence of a spammer in the group. Rather than making the membership moderated, is there a way to print the username as well in the message, alongwith the group name? As long as its technically feasible.
Another thing... I request Curtz to reconsider his decision of leaving the group. A spammer may resend the message in your name a hundred times, but a clarification from you will be enough to sovle the issue. I know - the same thing happened to me just today.
Until a better solution is found, I welcome the move to make the membership moderated. It may sound a bit autocratic on my part, but perhaps we can also look at re-registering all present members in the groups. On the other hand, it is also a non issue so not required.
Regards,
Grondmaster
Edit: As far as discussion topics go - not an issue. I felt that the topics under discussion were well under the umbrella - until it got out of hand. Wren & Martin can be discussed - no problems... Keep it under control, that's all. - Gronde.

Re: PG SMS Groups! -

Firstly, I think that the CoC needs to be sent to all the groups one more time. This is for the benefit of the new members, as well as warning them. First, send a message with the sender's name (as Admin) saying that the next message will be the CoC, and anyone not following it will be banned. Then, send the CoC.
Secondly, about the request for the new group on prep resources. To be honest, I don't see the need for it. There are many avenues for daily learning, spamming on SMS should not really add to the load. For those who wish to have such a service, then perhaps contact someplace else.
However, if there are many people for it (ask around on the forum, not on the SMS group) who wish such a service to start, then it can be looked at.
As I see it, the basic requirements for such a group are: (except for the logistical requirements from PG)
1. Decisions based on the type of prep resource to be sent on the group. I feel that the only info that can be sent is words and their meanings... not unlike flash cards given by IMS in Advanc'edge or the other coaching instis. This is based on the fact that there exists a word limit of about 140-160 characters per group message, after which it is split and sent as an internet hyperlink. To be sent properly,, eacch such message will have to be fit into that character limit. To me, the only prep resource that fitss this is the word preps.
2. Resource bank development. We are looking at a service to be rendered daily. On a minimum, this talks about one word per day. With two million words and above in the English lexicon, there will never be a dearth of preparatory material. But the selection of the words, making a proper unit out of it, which can then be sent on the group takes time. Who will do it? Who will be the person to clarify it? We need experts in English to ensure that the words given are CAT/GMAT level and are required in the preps for these exams. More importantly, the units prepared will have to adhere to a character limit, as described in the point above. Another thing is that the bank will need to be more than the number of days the service will run. The person may not be available on a daily basis, so s/he will have to prepare for those days as well when they will be indisposed. The admin will be sending the messages on those days, on their behalf.
But prior to doing any such thing, the most important thing to be considered now is whether such a service is required or not. Until now, we only have one anonymous person and one named person who has requested this service. There have been more voices against it on the SMS groups than for it. If the people on the forum are for a such a service, then it would make sense. Let's discuss the merits & demerits of these services here, rather than on the group.
Regards,
Grondmaster

I dont think there is any spammer involved here. There definitely seems to be a problem with the system that sends SMS to all of us (Although it receives it only once, it is sending that SMS to all of us multiple times - How many times is again a random figure) Like just now, I received ur SMS about COC twice (and expecting more ) Somebody at PG HQ need to look up this issue.
Further, even the unsubsrcibe doesnt seem to work. I've tried to do that, but am still getting all the SMSes.
You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club

Recently I believe there have been minor instances wherein people have kept msging at late night. However I was not to be disturbed from my sleep
I recieved all those messages in the morning thanks to a setting I had initially made on the site MyToday.
So all you puys out there who were annoyed do use the "Do Not Disturb Me between ......" option under 'My Account' on MyToday.
To login you can use the forgot password option. It will send you a fresh password to your mobile. That way puys outside Karnataka need not send a msg also. All through the web.
Hope you find it useful!
