Thanks anil. Awesome sdtuff. Watch out MS. What with Sun's Java desktop, SO and now Mozilla Firefox, I think MS might just be in for some competition now.....

Thanks to Srini & Wayne i came to know abt this thread.Yes,Mozilla Firefox is without a doubt much faster than IE...IE sucks. So really cudn't understand when the person who made the last post said that Mozilla F'fox was not faster.I have been using it for about 7 months now and it is my preferred browser. One can customize the loading of webpages according to one's preferences & hence webpages do get loaded fast. Curious to know abt the advanced features of Mozilla F'fox...never really tried them.

...Cheers,
Prashant

Smile FireFox Rox - 08-02-2005, 05:59 PM

yet another FireFox fan here ! its cool and fast. but i'ld like to point out certain cons of it, afaic.

its highly customizable, but the process is not as easy in case of other browsers. its not abt some check boxes and pull down menus, u gotta do the custo'n by adding some lines in a hidden editor. i was hinting
Quote:
about:config
editor. for eg: try changing its cache location. i'm keeping a separate drive for my temp i'net files. in all other three browsers i use (ie, netscape, opera) its a matter of clicking the 'Browse' button to relocate, whereas in Mozilla, i'd to surf thru various forums to find how to do it ! its more or less like editing ur windows registry (regedit).

another prob i found is with the regional language sites(try http://www.manoramaonline.com/ malayalam definitely has more than one letter in its alphabet !!). whether u download the fonts or not, u can hardly view them. i tried various encodings, but in vain.

actualy, i'ld expect an IRC client in Mozilla, coz Opera is already providing one. that too, much better than mIRC for primary users. (lemme add:-those who know the basics of IRC, try joining IRC.TechNerd.Net #Trivia, irc.opera.com #Trivia, IRC.starchat.net various channels, its fun and addictive).

one more thing, generally download managers wont leach the links frm FireFox. and the in-built download manager is not as efficient as external clients, obviously. but it has an advantage in itslef, even if u r using two or three p2p clients and/or download managers at once, FireFox speed is unaltered, where in IE u r dead in a similar situation (i've a 128k cable cnxn)

for an open-read-close function, FireFox is the best. for that, speed and simplicity is perfect, and everything is Freeeeeeee !!!

Rick.

Dude check out chatzilla. Needs tweaking....but will do fine. And regarding the download manager problem......if you have got an external download manager...u can make use of it by using the 'flashgot' extension. It works like a charm.

sure srini, i'll try that.

actually i'm a rookie in FireFox, just started exploring and what do u mean by 'FlashGot' extension ? to add .flashgot to the 'to be captured' extensions ? lemme try.

i went thru ur xtension list and was taken aback my gudness, what's that ?? i think i'm gonna enroll myself for a tuition frm u !! i tried to interpret some of their functions frm their names, and i think many of them r already provided by Opera without much effort(eg: translation) (i've a slight inclination for Opera, i admit) easyGestures means mouse gestures, eh ?? do u use Opera ? can u compare FireFox and Opera ? (not for an argument, but i sincerely need some expert comparison)

for the time being i'm a bit bz, i'll definitely check out the features u've mentioned. hope u dont mind contacting u sometimes later, pls ?

i'll b grateful if u can suggest a solution for the regional language probs ? i tried it with many other sites and languages, and the same prob persists. if that's possible i'll definitely make FireFox my default. and this is an immediate requirement.

ty,
Rick.
