One way u can do is try uninstalling ur IE and yahoo and then re-installing. That should restore ur reg settings to original. You can even use reg cleaners to get rid of all reg entries corresponding to yahoo (cant do the same for IE, might mess up ur windows) and then re-install ur yahoo messenger.
If nothing else works, format ur system and then reload.

Hey guys,
I have a memorex dvd writer.... Off late i am facing a strange problem. It was single fold but has recently turned 2 fold. First was the fact that i wasn't able to write on Sony DVD's which was strange to say the least. I thought that maybe it was a one time thing... But recently i tried 10 diff sony dvd's and i wasnt able to write to any of them. Nero used to give me a "session fixation error".
After that i wrote one moser baer dvd which also dint turn out perfect....(dint finalise) After this every time i try 2 burn a dvd it starts lead in which goes on for like 3-4 min and then it fails. The DVD is luckily not ruined.
Ne ideas as to why i mite be facing this??? All advice will be appreciated...
 Cheers

your drive might be dying ... if under warranty , get it replaced or atleast get it checked
take the drive on some other PC & try it gives the same errors , then surely its the drive ...

Puneet is right. If u have an old dvd writer, then chances are that its lens might have worn out. Since u've already tried different cds, then it should be the lens problem mostly. Try writing at lower speeds and see if it works. I once bought a local pack of cds and all the 10 cds were a waste.
Secondly, try using a different software to write and see if it works. Such a problem can be both hardware as well as software.

AFAIK, there should be 2 lasers in it. One is the read laser and the other one should be the write laser.
Wikipedia and howstuffworks should give u a better insight.

Ok, here's something i want to know.
I am using a shared internet connection with 7 other people. The server is of my friend's. Now, sometimes due to the ISP's bad service, internet would not be working (i.e. coming) even though the server would be on and it would come of its own sometimes. Basically, the problem would be from the ISP itself.
Now, it is a big pain to know when the internet connection is live, and i have to check after every few minutes.
so i would like to know that is there any software as such which would play some sound or some sort of alarm to indicate that the LAN is connected to the World Wide Web?

Re: Computer queries -

Hope someone here can help me with this ..
I use two IBM laptops (provided from office) to access broadband. Both have same configuration and Winxp.
The problem was --
When I turn the laptops on with the network cable plugged in, one of them used to hang for 3-4 minutes, after I typed my login and password. When I observed closely, this is what i found.
While booting, the first laptop does not prompt me for login and password, until it establishes network connection ( which normally takes 3-4 mins with Sify, this I came to know when I noticed that during boot, a dialog appears saying ..Preparing network connections.. for 3-4 mins)..
While the second one, boots up instantaneously, and then prompts me for login and password. After I login, the wallpaper appears, and system stops responding for 3-4 mins, until n/w connectivity is established.
Can anyone explain why is this difference between two apparently same laptops. Can user decide on when should a logon be prompted, before or after a network connection is established ????

I am not sure that a software can be designed for this. I am trying to think logically so i may be wrong.
When a pc is connected to the internet via a lan cable or ne other cable for that matter, if the cable is connected and the connection is live there is no way for the pc to know or even care for that matter whether u can access the net.
A lan connection means always on connection, the pc is able to distinguish between connected and disconnected, that's it.
Even i face the same problem, my net goes offline periodically and i am left wanting. Normally i keep a ping command running so that if the connection comes back online i can see that both the incoming as well as outgoing lights are always on... in case the net is down the lights will not flash....
Ofcourse in this case also i have to keep checking on my pc. Its irritating, i know but i cant figure out a way... if nebody has some suggestion pls educate us. it will be highly appreciated.......
 Cheers
