try changing the settings like keep values 2,3,4 for the number of uploads and 0 for the upload speed. Also change the number of simultaneous downloads. See, if u can achieve something by tinkering the settings... If u can't then, better re-install.
Regd the other query, it is possible that the file might be corrupt. However, try to copy-paste the file from the download folder i.e.
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Ares\My Shared Folder
and run it using some other player. Try to download "media player classic" and run the file through that. It is better than all the other players and uses the least amount of RAM/CPU. If u still aren't able to run the file, chances are that ur file might be corrupt.
Secondly, for future reference, use avipreview or VLC player to view the partially downloaded file to ensure that the media u r downloading is correct.
