a 32-bit OS is what windows currently is.. it is made to work on the 32-bit processors which can process 32-bits of data per clock cycle. the FSB speeds are limited to 800 Mhz.
a 64-bit OS are the new generation OS (there is one for windows too) which are custom made for the 64-bit processors. they are optimised to make full use of the extra bandwidth and processing power available with the 64-bit processors and hence are faster in execution..
i dunno more technical details. someone plz correct if i am wrong
