Hmm hmm, a nice query, thought provoking...I have more than a coupla tabs on AMD open right now, hehe! Being an Intel client all this time, never really got to know much on the subject.
If the motherboard is giving U problems (what kinda problems...? U never know, it might not be the motherboard but something else...!), it sounds logical to go for a replacement.
I would agree on a DvD writer being a luxury; but it depends on your usage as well, if you're somebody (collector sort) who likes storing a lot of Movies, Games et al then maybe burning DvDs instead of CDs looks like an attractive option. But, if you're a normal user, a CD writer (and that too with an add-on normal CDROM, remember copying and burning at the same time is so much fun...!) is sufficient to do good work, and also the cost of a DvD is a bit (almost 40-90 bucks for a DvD, depending on the brand) on the higher side for everyday usage, don't you think so...?
Speakers, yeah...! I am a die-hard Creative Fan, when it comes to speakers. These not-only being total value for money, offer great sound quality as well. The lowest model I'd advice you to look at would be SBS 370, 2.1 speakers; from this model to the higher ones (3.1, 5.1, hell even 7.1) you can choose depending on the size of the room your pc is placed in, and the shape of the woofer (according to accoustics of the room). The model I'm talking about comes with a wooden woofer, two satellites, and at 1250 bucks is real kick arse...!
Hope, I was able to help in some way...!
Cheers!
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.

Hey a moserbaer Dvd costs 28 in delhi dude plus with capacity of almost nine times more its for sure a cheaper option ..
Though with his budget constraints hey may well go for a combo tht will save him a 1000 bucks i feel Dvds are on the way n combo will serve well.
n as far as speakers i will suggest creative inspire 2.1 for arnd 1650 though this is 400 rs costly thn those sbs 370 but they pack a lot more punh sure u will love it
ps: Me using a socket A type processor AMD ATHLON DURON n have never faced those so called heat probs my pc runs continously for almost 10 hrs everday all u need is a big cabbinet n proper ventillation ....
Its better to burn out than fade away

What is the max. amt. of data [mp3,pdf,doc] that can be written to a 700 mb cd using Nero ?
How much of the 700 mb should be used for optimum performance ?

Whether u use Nero or anything under the sun, a 700 MB CD can hold only 700 MB data. Now there is a overburn feature in Nero which helps in bypassing the software restrictions but it is helpful only in a case if ur movie file is say 701/702 MB than you MIGHT be able to (depending on the CD brand) fit that on a 700 MB rated disk.
Now there are disks available of the capacity of 800 MB as well so you can use them, but they have compatibility issues with some older players.
And if u are using a multisession disk, then you loose around 25 MB every time you lock the CD. I mean even if you write a 1MB word document, 25 Mb of ur Disk space is gone.
Now as for the optimum performence, I normally write around 670 MB on a 700 MB disk as it helps if the edges of the CD gets scratched during inserting it in CD Pouch.

Well in case of Video files, u may see some times that the video file size is much more than 700 MB, but in that case, it is the Track length of 80 Minutes is what matter. (I mean no matter what ur file size is, when u try to make a VCD, it will accomodate only 80 Mins of video). Same goes for the Audio CDs (But not the mp3 disks, they are data disks by default)..

Just posting my xp... for mp3s, docs and pdfs, i have used upto 699. something MBs, i.e. as much as possible using all permutations and combinations, and has worked fine... Its only when video(.dat or .mpg) files are burnt and the CD is meant to be played on a DVD player and not on a comp, that NERO automatically allocates some space for the other necessary files..

depends on ur use.. if u r gonna do some heavy duty printing.. a laser printer will turn out to be the most economical and also very good quality. but they come expensive. for home printing, HP is good and economical for B/W prints. for color prints EPSON is probably the most economical..
cheers

Please Forgive my ignorance, puneet, but do we have to downlaod software inorder to get BitTorrent files?
The reason is, i spend most of my time at WebWorld, and they don't allow you to download and install software. Or else i would have used a P2P...
