Re: .LIT file...how to open ??? - 24-03-2006, 12:03 AM

I have a insane query. Is it worth repairing a monitor which has turned colourblind My monitor shows yellow for green, black for red and so on most of the time. But when i am really despearte for seeing the actual colours, i give it a whack on the side and it works fine for some time My query is can this problem be treated by repairs? And is it worth to carry out the repairs?

Hey Nikhil,

This is a pretty common problem, it can happen due to,

1) A device (like a cell phone) that emits E.M Waves is kept in close proximity to the monitor. In that case the only solution would be to call your computer vendor and get it repaired, as he would balance this using a Magnetic Device (I don't remember the name exactly). But hmm, in monitors these days, this might not be the problem in your case.

2) Yeah, the fuse. There must be a fuse in the back of your monitor. Either when the fuse wire, is almost done for, or done for; this colour changing phenomenon occurs. Simple solution, open that red circular spinning lid, check for the fuse, if burnt - check for specifications, buy new one from any vendor (its relatively cheap, not more than 20 bucks even in Timbaktu'). Put it in, and you'll have a monitor as colourful, like Bobby Deol's shades...hehe!

Hope this answers your query...and may God give you people to whack than poor mute machine!
Cheers!

Oops.I did not find any fuse on my monitor I crawled all over the back of my monitor but could not reach it. Where is it located exactly?

Hey Nikhil,

Even I did some research on it...I had a 1st Gen colour monitor till one year back...Philips - so it actually had a fuse on the outside (out of the hood), in which I faced a similar problem. Then, I just looked behind the monitor in my Dad's pc, LG 2nd Gen, his monitor didn't have an outside fuse, I guess it is inside the hood...! Now, I have a Samsung 3rd Gen TFT, so I'm really unsure...!

But, from whatever I can analyze, I think some connection inside the monitor is loose, that's why it works well with whacks...

So, the best option would be to refer the nearest h/w vendor, I think the repair cost in this case would be around 200-500 bucks...!

In case ur thinking about changing the monitor itself, if its any less than the earlier LG flat ones or less than 15'; I would advice U to do so...

Also check with the vendor for the exchange cost, because these days the monitors are taken back at dirt prices (Cost of Repair Vs Acquire New Asset Base Analysis)...

Cheers!

Total cost 10,250
Everything else seems fine

For about 2 grand more you could go for the A64 3200+

Though I would advise you to wait a few months for the simple reason that chips prices are definitely going to fall a bit. Intel has demo'd what appears to be a killer chip so there's going to be a nice price warfare soon

Chuck the FDD and invest that change in a flash drive

FLAT My monitor is as bulky as it can get Daewoo 13" 2001 model. Also the entire configuration of ny PC is almost of the renaissance age

So I may go for a new one some time soon. But was just checking whether the monitor could be fixed up cheaply so that i would get a good price for the old one as a whole.
Thanks for the reply
Nikhil

Hey stop posting in other threads!!

As for AMD 2000+, I am not sure what kinda Mobo you want for 10K while still going for the Amd2000+ . This appears suspiciously like a SocketA chip. you must have terrible heat problems with this chip. See if you cant replace the chip and mobo for something better. The DVD writer could be termed a luxury so you might want to re-think that.
