@bharath - Please PM me if you find a good anti-virus for those. I would try to get the names of the ones I used.

Thanks Catapult and Neo for all the inputs,
i don't know the extent to which the restrictions have been put, though i am having no problems in accessing folder options and other critical settings.
internet too is working perfectly fine, and i am having no bandwidth restrictions.
its just tht i am not able to access REGEDIT. i will try to follow what Ego_Nomist suggested, and will keep you guys informed.

Re: Computer queries - 05-06-2008, 12:57 PM

Hi ! A query ! I wish to use my new lappy in place of my desktop for internet use. Will using the same uid and pswrd in my lappy create issues ? As in using them both on the laptop and the desktop, not simultaneously though !

Or should I just install the connection software and go ahead ? I use BSNL DataOne Broadband.

Regards.

@coolroy

No there shouldnt be any problem since you are using both computers separately.

All you need to is get the BSNL BB installed on your laptop and you are good to go.

As for the userid and password - I assume you mean that of the broadband. Use the same one you had on your desktop.

Cheers.

Guys,

I have not been able to disable the restriction to access REGEDIT by following the instruction tht Ego_Nomist suggested. i tried running a scan and also searched for the "Newfolder.exe" virus. there seems to be no virus on my system, and neither is any newfolder guy.
i use AVG free version and update daily.
any suggestions?

Bharath
hi Bharath,
i have seen many a times that some executables get corrupt in windows...
in my college time, once it happened that the task manager (executable file) got corrupt...
although it didn't create any problem as such...i realized it one day when i needed the task manager and couldn't access it...
so after sometime i repaired the OS using the XP cd...

you can try repairing the OS but it makes the overall operations quite slow...
my fellow techies used to suggest to format the system and have a new installation of XP...but i don't think that would be required in your case...:-)

Re: Computer queries - 08-06-2008, 10:32 PM

hi all,

i have a doubt about buying laptop - what is the technical difference between Dual core and core 2 duo ?
i know that core 2 duo is costlier than dual core.... but both the names sound synonymous.
which is better in performance - speed as well as heat generation ?
Given that i'm not a gamer, will it mean any difference to me between these 2?

depends on which make of mobile u're using..4 Nokia u need to have a USB cable(or u shud b able 2 connect ur mobile 2 ur PC using bluetooth) and the Nokia PC suite installed and running on ur PC..this suite is freely available as a download on the nokia website..the basic funda is dat u connect ur mobile to ur PC(either using USB cable/bluetooth) and browse the net using the PC suite as a 'connexion' between ur web browser(Internet Explorer, Mozilla etc.) and mobile..

I guess the procedure is almost similar mobiles of other makes 2..pm me 4 ne further help..

There are two ways to do this.
  1. Setup a dial-up connection in your PC. The settings will be available with Airtel. Call up customer care and ask them.
  2. The PC suite of the mobile should allow you the option of directly using the internet with no hassles what so ever. Just do what Dibakar has told in the previous post.
Cheers.

P.S: if you have further queries please do free to post.
