Hey man, this is one of the most useful thread i've found...my eyesight is very high on a 10-ptr scale...but i'll wait till 6-12 months more before i'd think of correcting it...
can I claim the expenses of this operation from my health insurers?

Abey...yours didn't look like 10-pointer spects!
Do you use some special glasses?
Anyway I ve decent power..
And Lasik being not 100% safe,I tend to prefer lenses!!
I mean eyesight being a very delicate issue, I prefer being safe here!

i have undergone lasik laser and the procedure is pretty safe if done from e reputed hospital and a qualified doctor. The price would be around 25k-30k. Regd the reimbursement, u can contact ur insurance office or ur company to see which all kinds of medical packages they cover and then maybe talk to ur doctor if he can issue u a bill for some eye problem which ur package includes.
Hope that helps!
Regards,
Gaurav

Well eccentric001,
Lasik laser or zyoptix has 99.XX % success... that means there might be fraction of a %cent chance for it being unsuccessful. HEnce people don't prefer to mess with their eye sight for a very small number like 1. The truth is that changes are irreversible, i.e. whatever way the laser shapes ur cornia, it can't be reverted back. Moreover, a person won't have any serious problem with a small number.
My power earlier was 6.5 and after surgery it is 1

I might be the spoil sport here but as I read most of the posts, I realized that in the enthu of great surgeries, no one has touched up on the horros of a botched up surgery. A simple laser operation can go wrong. And once it goes wrong it creates a lot of mess. The surgeon might accidently scratch the surface of the cornea, which could mean need for a cornea transplant, something which will be a bother for a lifetime (steroid drops for a long logn time, worrying if the cornea is being rejected etc etc.) Another thing that might happen is that the number might get over corrected. So you might end up wearing glasses afterall...with a difference that u will be wearing + instead of - . Good doctors help a lot in making a surgery perfect, but please remember that any surgery, even one considered as minor as a laser is, can have a fall back and its these fall backs which create problems for life. Even people as experienced as the head of departments at AIMMS make a mistake at times!
One last point, before i leave ya'll in peace. A surgery might have a chance of being 99% sucess, but you could end up being in that 1% lot. So for an individual the chances of success arent 99%, its always going to be 50-50.
Oh and good docs in delhi...someone mentioned Dr. Shroff...he is reputed. One can also go to shroff charity eye hospital SCEH in daryaganj, nice hospi and nice docs there.

hi limitlessky,
lemme tell u that it is true that lasik is not a 100% success... there is a very minor chance of it not being a success (like <0.5%) or so the procedure is also reversible. But if we go to a good doctor who has been doing these types of treatment earlier (doing ur homwork properly) then the -ve chance is almost negligible. Before going for lasik, they test ur cornea thickness to determine whether ur no. would go to zero or not (i had 6.5 earlier and now its 1). Also the laser machine is having an automatic detector, so if u move ur head even a wee bit, it won't do the surgery (i remember that for those few secs, i held my breath to keep still)
So, if the person has done his homework properly, the chances are negligible, yet u have to sign papers saying ' u can't hold them responsible if anything goes wrong '... I took that risk...

Gaurav, am glad your surgery went well, I hope the same for everyone. I just wanted to give a word of caution, which I did. Like I said, even former HOD of AIIMS make mistakes, and some mistakes can never get corrected.
