World Cup 2006 - Discussions and more - 16-12-2005, 06:58 PM

What do you guys think about the world cup draw and what are your predictions for the Quarters and Semis. Here is what i have come up with after analyzing the draw :

Quarters
Holland v/s Germany
Czech Republic v/s France
Argentina v/s England
Brazil v/s Spain

Semis
Holland v/s Czech Republic
Brazil v/s Argentina

Just realized the semis are 3 v/s 2 and 1 v/s 4 as per fifa world rankings. The above is based on my assumption that the groups will be topped by Germany, England, Holland (on goal difference), Portugal, Czech Republic, Brazil, France (This one im not sure about, if there is going to be an upset early on here is where it will be .... watch out for South Korea here) and Spain.

Ofcourse be4 we get to the quarters if the above scenario holds we could have some mouth watering clashes in the 2nd round like Portugal v/s Argentina, Brazil v/s Italy and France v/s Ukraine.

Also the Czech Republic's performance will depend heavily on whether Pavel Nedved plays or not. If he doesnt i think Italy will top that Group and hence avoid Brazil in the 2nd Round.

Lets hear some more views and arguments.

Dont you think you missed out Carra, he isnt even on your subs bench. My opinion is he shuld start alongside Terry in Defense.

Here is what my Favourite squad should look like :

Abbondanzieri
Heinze(if fit), Ayala, Samuel/Milito Zanetti
Mascheranho(if fit) / Demechillis
Aimar, Riquelme, Sorin
Messi
Crespo

Reserves :

Tevez
Maxi Lopez
Saviola
Cambiasso
Collocini
Luis Gonzales
German Lux
Solari
Placente
Maxi Rodriguez

People this is going to be the Riquelme Messi show. Stand aside Ronaldinho, Rooney etc.

I'm hoping for a few surprises this year, because the world cup somehow does not feel all that great this time around. Maybe because its because of the whole lot of new teams participating.

My predictions (only for the 1st round):
Group A - Germany and Costa Rica
Group B - England and Paraguay
Group C - Netherlands and Argentina (but I do want Ivory Coast to go through too)
Group D - Mexico and Portugal
Group E - Czech Republic and United States
Group F - Brazil and Japan
Group G - France and Switzerland
Group H - Spain and Ukraine

The next rounds will be too tough to predict!

Why do you guys keep forgetting Carra? He is the best center back England have got!!!! I hope Sven thinks like you guys and doesnt play him, because that will mean that we will beat England silly in the Quarters, ofcourse that is if you guys can get over your swedish fear in the 1st round. hahahaha.
And please Super Striker Crespo ..... lets not go there till a couple of years ago you guys depended on Emile Heskey for goals and now you have Peter "Can't find the back of the net" Crouch.
As far as Wayne "The Wonderkid" Rooney is concerned, i like to call him Wayne "Red Card" Rooney.
Lets not shoot our mouths off too much ... we only need to wait 6 months and we will know who'll be singing "We are the Champions"
