waitlist funda

yo ppl,
a lot of us have made it , while some of us are quit close but not yet there..
right. I am talking abt the waitlisted ppl..
would some one throw light on the waitlist funda??
why does an IIM give more confirmed calls that the no of seats? If it is because of the ppl who leave it for other institutes, then thats what a waitlist is for right?

I would say the Institutes which doesn't come out with waitlist do give more converts than usual seats availbale.

The general feeling would be, for an institute, :-

The more of waitlist of an institutes gets cleared, the number of better institutes r there. So some institutes doesn't give WL at all. Some does without bothring about their image.

As i've heard IIML gave around 400 Conversion alst yr. But they had to take 37 more ppl due to this as it didn't clear to the limited seats.
