I beg to differ.
I checked the CAT brochure just now. You have to calculate your marks by considering all the subjects ... and this holds for all the exams.

similar fix - 17-01-2005, 04:10 PM

hi manu,
after reading ur post i realised i had committed a similar error i.e calculated my %age, as i always do, using the rules of my state board written on the back side of my marks sheet.
what r u doing abt it?
I called up IIMA and was told to fill the interview form correctly and mention in the footnote about why and what i had filled up in the Cat Application Form.
plzz reply.
sks

i dont know whether this qualifies as a mistake on my part or not but here goes:
i am a BE from jadavpur university and we have 8 semesters spread over 2 years. however, only the last 4 semesters are used for calculating the performance in BE (final maksheets, rank, etc) and no weightage is given to the first 4 semesters. when filling up the cat application form, i filled up my percentage marks in the last 4 semesters and did not consider the first 4 - does this qualify as a mistake? the cat bulletin states that all SUBJECTS need to be considered while computing percentage marks. does this include all SEMESTERS as well?

Just the thread i was looking for!! Here's my predicament...

I have just realised (!!) that i made an error in entering my graduation marks (on account of 2 marks in a subsidiary paper...thought it was 84...turned out to be 82!) in the CAT application form due to which my marks as per the form and my actual marks differ by 0.2% (on the higher side).

Are the marks presented at the interview (markshaeets et al) and the CAT application marks reconciled and if they are how screwed am i due to the difference??!!!!

The IIM A interview form says 'Provide complete information on the examination marks in all columns. Marks stated in these columns MUST TALLY with those in the original marksheets'.
Could this mean that they just reconcile what is mentioned in the interview form vs. the marksheets and not get into the CAT application data?

Also should i bring the difference to the notice of the interview panel (btw interview is on 24th Feb) or just ignore it since it just changes my percentage from a 74.3 to a 74.1 which is not all that life changing!!

Please help guys coz i dont want to mess up by chances with an IIM due to a problem like this!!!!

pls reply soon coz im completely freaking out!!!

thanks

What you should do is write a mail explaining your mistake and send it off asap to the concerned IIMs. It will help if your marks-card says 84% and not 79%. My SSLC(Karnataka state X std) marks-card says 87% because thats the average of my 5 best subject marks, though the actual average(as expected in the CAF) is 86%. That kinda thing will def make your life easy when you explain to the ppl concerned.

I hate to say this, and hope I am wrong, but I have the feeling that this kind of thing could blow up in your face big-time. Only good thing I see here is that inspite of getting 84% in school(as you have entered it), you have got calls from the IIMs. This must mean that your other marks(tewlfth std, graduate/post graduate) must be pretty good. Hopefully things do work out for you.

Send your mail asap and show your honesty and make a good impression. Best of luck!
i think that you have crossed that one step .
cmon give us a break what do u mean inspite of 84% what do you expect that IIMs are looking for a high scoring acads, personally i feel 10th and 12th marks doesnt matter as long as they are above 60%.

i disagree. i think these marks make a big big difference to the selection process and are the only factors that explain why some people from a btech background, with low percentiles have more calls than their other stalwart friends who screwed up in school.

does it matter - 22-02-2005, 09:57 AM

i think we need to fill individual forms for each IIMs when we go for interview... just fill the correct marks there..... i think finally that would what be verified with original marksheet... common they wont verify ur cat application form and ur admission form both and evn if they chek it ... what matter wld be ur details in admission fom i.e what u fill for GD-PI which each IIMs send... and anywayz u can alwayz explain abt the discrepancy if anychance they catch IT BY SAYIN THAT ... " that was my mistake in understanding while fillin cat form...and i told this to interview panel and finally filled the correct marks in the admission form"..... hope it will work..... take a chill pill..... u cant help it right now anymore then this... just be confident.. and prepare hard for interview...

Whom are you kidding, man? Above 60%? Wake up .. look around the forum, check out last years and this years threads for IIM calls and then tell me if you still feel the same.
