If the TIME key is wrong, then how come one of my friend got less score than mine (checking thru same TIME key) and still got 92%tile

Any veterans willing to tell me, what could have gone wrong.... somebody suggested that I might have done mistake in marking....but will that cause such a great difference in expected and actual result ? Any other explanation?? Just wanted to make sure that this doesnt happen in other exams...I am extremely upset and confused....

My words of wisdom - 22-12-2004, 11:21 PM

I would just like to give my two pennies worth on the 'TIME key accuracy' and the percentile inconsistency...

The trouble here is not the 'inaccuracy' of TIME key or for that matter any other key..if at all any there would be a difference of 2-3 marks..

However one thing that needs to be considered is the marking pattern....NO one knows how much negative marking the IIMs have or for that matter if they have at all..or perhaps the negative marking differs section wise part wise..or maybe there is a negative marking for accuracy factor.....ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE....
so the scores you get from the keys may not be the real scores that the IIMs calculate EVEN IF THE KEY YOU USE IS RIGHT!

Unless the system gets a lot more transparent, these discrepancies will keep arising........

i checked my scores with IMS keys too it was around 32-33 and i dont think TIME ans keys were wrong...i dont undertand..gettiin a 47 %ile may be OMR errors but i hardly did tht in any AIMCAT's!!!

i m also confused and shocked like pooja...even i wanna know wht went wrong!!! i feel disgusted..not the matter of gettin calls from institutes...just tht u feel very low if it shows 47%ile...

COUNT me in as hell!

It was IMS that told me I could take a hike ,
and it took IIMs to tell me to just get out and get lost.

Screw them both!

Can we sue!

Anyways , hands together for CAT 2005.We'll prove a point or two!

Well same thing happened with me. I was expecting a score of around 63.33 overall (breakup: DI:22.67, Quant:24.67,Verbal:16). I had checked my answers with the keys provided by TIME, IMS, CL.

When I checked my results, I was shell shocked. It shows I have got measely 49.(DI:15, Quant:21.33, Verbal:12.67). There is no explanation in nearsight. I have a point to put forth here. There is highly unlikely probability of any quant or DI question being shown wrong. Because there is only one answer for it.

One more point to mention here. I did only 1 mistake each in DI and quant and though 15 in verbal. But the scores tell a different story.

I had expected a couple of calls but now I don't how to respond to this.

hey guys i totally agree with malladu...
theres no way we can really kno what parameters theyre using to assess..or what negative marking scheme...
my frend got a 99.89 last yr, only a bangalore call, this yr with 99.10 hes got BLACKI!!!!
no workex wala funda...
since we dont have much choice than to grin(try atleast) and bear it... we have to make sure the accuracy is much greater...

atb for xat, and all the others!!!
sue

Actually there are two issues

1) Discrepancy between expected and actual scores
2) Getting calls from IIMs

I think you are mixing these two. The CAT bulletin clearly indicates that the different IIMs consider different CAT questions for giving a call to the candidates.

So if your friend got 99.89%tile, but when IIMs would have considered the scores by removing some of answers, then he might have been below cutoff(a lowered individual cut-off of various IIMs) in some or the other section, while with a 99.10%tile, even after removing some of the answers he may have cleared the cut-off. All this depends on which questions you answered and which one IIMs remove. This might explain the confusion regarding calls....IIMs do not consider absolute final percentile alone while giving out calls.

While what I want to know from you ppl, is about such a vast discrepancy between actual and expected scores. What could have gone wrong?

hi guys....

me in the same boat and i guess a lot of Goans can add up to this...
had calc my score bfore seein the result, takin the keys from all 3 TIME, IMS and CL - my breakups were -

DI - 12- 13
VA - 21-22
PS - 16-17

net around 50-51

my percentiles which i got - dont know how to describe the shock --
DI - 81
VA- 75
PS - 83
net - 85

acc to these percentiles my scores are - (acc to normalised scores)
DI - 7
VA- 10 ????????
PS - 8-9 ??????????
net - 26 ???? (almost half my actual score)

conclusion - crap results from IIMs - due to which i lose out on MDI and NITIE too

facts - some good guys from Goa gettin zero percentage etc in some sections when they were expectin good mks there...

advice - just fget it...we werent meant for it this time...in ne case the IIMs seem to have gone for higher work-ex and less of engineers, or hi-fi percentiles (both sectional and overall)
