Fatal Errors!! - 18-11-2004, 11:13 PM

I was taking a test today. Since I was deeply attached to the test and was flying with a very high speed I forgot to read the instruction and so instead of inappropriate I did appropriate (though I have heard 100 times about people doing this error).

So, I request the junta to post the fatal errors which they have ever made in their mocks. This way we will be little more alert on the D-Day. These errors can completely break the performance. In todays test I lost a hefty 6.67 marks due to this error.

So, my list goes here:-

1/ DS instruction
2/ Inappropriate/Appropriate
3/ In Logical puzzles, missing a point and marking can't be determined

Options given in this fashion r a major trap... got confused once in a last yr mock...
1) 2 * * * *2) 4 * * * *3) 1 * * * *4) 3

Another area where majority ppl tend to go wrong is upstream/downstream... though it hasnt come in recent CAT papers

Edit: By upstream/downstream, I meant upstream/downstream statements, and not those t-s-d type quant probs...

nice thread...shows concern for all CAT aspirants...great goin Ailurophobe...

the errors u have mentioned are indeed very frequent errors...losing out due to them can mean crisis...its best to read...at least give a glance to all directions in the paper for each kind of questions...

Marking the wrong oval is one thing tht really hurts you big time. And it seems so unlikely that one will ever do it. But it can happen. So instead of marking the wrong answer in less than a second, be a little careful and mark the right answer in 1.25 secs

One more thing, but this one is specifically for those ppl who transfer their answers to the OMR sheet in groups or in intervals. Make sure u transfer *every* answer to the OMR. Last CAT, I forgot to transfer 2 answers.

I sometimes miss out on reading a line mentioning that the figures are in million or billion, or stating additional infrmation.

This usually happens in DI questions containing more than 1 graph, where my attention is divertd to the graphs and i miss out on reading the one line at the start of the question.

I was solving this MC series paper of Time. In one of the DI question they had given 2 pi charts. But details about one pie chart was under the other one. To add to this the only difference was the year for which the chart were provided. So I ended doing all 5 Questions with the wrong data.

One more common mistake....questions which has 4 blank statements and they give 4 choices and ask whats the maximum time a word will fill those blanks, we invariably enter the word that will fill the most instead mentioning the numbers. I used to do this mistake quite a lot in early days of preparation but later on I made a conscious attempt to Read the instruction of such questions extra carefully. Though easy, such mistake can cause havoc on our scores.....specially when Verbal scores are so important.
