hi!

u can differentiate b/w problems of permutation &combination as

permutation will have only form and the combination will have all the possible combinations.

i.e in permutation ab and ba are same but noy in combination.

hi,

for DI remember:

Firstly as suggested in previous posts
1) spend 2-3 days , just on ratios, multiplication , percentages ( it is very important to know what 37.5 % of 800 or or 83.33 % of 600 is )
2) spend another 2 days on basics of logical reasoning

For the exam itself : remember the cutoffs for DI are generally higher than quant ... a decent score ( 96 +, varies a bit percentiile) would be 18-20. If u have 5 sets .. in each set atleast 3 quesions would be from easy to moderate difficulty ( moderate means more calculations )
1) learn to leave one or 2 questions in a set
2) dont have fixed mindsets about logic or di sets. spend atleast a minute or two on a set before u decide to junk it completly( never advised)
3) so 5 sets of di would be around 20 -25 ques ... of the 15 'crackable' questions u should be able to get 12, of the 15 -20 logic questions 1 set would be easy and a few questions in other sets should give u net of 5 , and then the ds should give u 2-3 marks for a net of 20

35 min initially + another 5 mins ot get any tough questions

17 min di , 13 min logic , 5 min ds + 5 min on anything left =40 min
20 marks .. ur through

preparation is never late ...u started late so what ..give it ur best shot

Hi,
I wrote a full length yesterday which had 5 sections and 2.5 hrs duration.
topics: VC,RC,Quants+DI,Logical reasoning,GK & current affairs, Managerial aptitude.
is it possible to get a CAT paper like this? because i think an early warning is necessary. GK paper erased all the confidence i had in my knowledge, they asked who's the IGNOU Vice-chairman, what causes convulsion in children, why is there an enamel coating in transformers and which plant has seeds but no fruit...etc.
the Quant+DI was actually very very easy [i think the real stuff oughta be more tougher], but the shock of the 2 new sections made my usual strong points VC and logical quite shaky!!! comments/brickbats?
daily mantra: I will, I will make it (to IIM)!!!

hi ramya,
gr8 enthu to take a 5 section paper. i really dont think there would be a paper with gk in it. even 4section paper's are very rare and anyways the last few years papers have tended to be consistent (3 sections only).
what you can do is to go through some early cat papers 1990-2000 papers , as CAT has this habit of picking up a style of questions from previous papers.
time gives these papers for home practice

anyways gk would be useful during gd's and interviews so no harm in keeping yourself up to date
this is a career choice ur making and all efforts should be planned and executed well

have fun

hi all,

I need help on questions on reasoning. ( in di/ds/lr section )

Actually I love doing reasoning based questions but doing the same in cat with time constraint is a totally different situation. here u have to think and analyse which in turn may take time.

1.please suggest me ways how to go abt this..

2. suppose u have got a reasoning ques like a b c related to 1 2 3 related to X Y Z
not in that order and with conditions....what is the best way to go for those ques...
how can i make the matrix (which is not 2 X2 ,having multiple order...)

3. is it worth attempting reasoning ques with the size of a paragraph but with only one mark. like that was there in aim-cat 512.

thank u very much...

all the best for ur endeavour !
