Start with your name, your academic background...acadmic background-mention only ur undergrad course + college.
Then what are your interests and hobbies. You may or may not wish to include your strengths and weaknesses. That depends on the context, cos they might ask u your strenghts and weaknesses as a separate question.
Dont talk bout ur parents/family background. Its unnecessary.
Regards,
Sanjeev Garuda

why not your parents/family?

they already know your name...
start with your family(very short description), and then the academic background.
interests/hobbies. that's it.

It depends, and just tells something more about yourself.
That is, you value people who have been greatly insrumental in making you what you are today.

I don't know how disassociating yourself from the family suddenly gives you an identity!!!

No ghulam, actually many panelists are of the opinion that you are what you are, and so u dont need to mention your parental background. Its basically like considering u on ur own merits and so taht a candidate does not have an advantage just cos his parents are better off than some other candidate's.
