6) Impress GF/BF or their parents.
7) Parental pressure.

13) Brand of institution
14) Cuz GMAT is easier than GRE (yes...one my friend thinks so..cuz u don have to mugup WL)
15) Cuz u have a boss whos younger than u and has MBA.
16) Cuz u think that u are more talented than your boss..so go fetch an MBA..come to the same company...and boss ur boss...by kicking his ass.
17) No idea.
eighteen) No comments.
19) Outta interest.....(now guys/gals who fall in this category....pls eleborate...that would be helpful to many souls out here)

PS1: The above list is just a random list.
PS2: There should be a poll on this. It would be interesting to know why ppl actually go for MBA.
PS3: these are the reasons i could think of from my XP....feel free to add more

very well put up mate all the reasons listed may be a reason to someone or the other.....well somethin abt me .. i passed out in june 2004 and didnt take up any job thinkin i will surely make it to a b-skool and to my disappointment nothing worked for me .: i work for IBM service management and now i feel this job sucks (one of the options) i have to get a PG degree to get my career in right path and MBA was my option from the beginning .. so i thought of writing cat 2005 again(taking it more seriously --- as my life ) i have to start for it from the end of this month ....... so guys any of you got any comments or suggestion which would help me

I was afraid this thread is going to start going this way!
Dudes... All the above reasons while completely valid, basically mean the same two things I jotted down 6-7 replies ago... though kudos to assignus... i think his reasons are applicable (at least in part) to a majority of B-school aspirants...

However, even though money and prestige (even Gf or Bf's, friends, family, strangers... whatever) are not irrelevent... isn't anyone interested in management for the sake of the work involved?

I am. And am wondering if anyone else is too...

By the way, even though Deepti started this thread, it had not been replied to since Dec 04 before zango brought thi to my attention... Instaed of starting a new thread I just picked up this one coz it was related and active (so to speak)

So I wasn't actually offering advice or comments to the initiator of the post... though if she is still undecided she can surely get involved here again...

Hey deepti, forget ur MBA - 18-05-2005, 08:32 AM

I don't know Deeptizee is taking so much time to decide. C'mon deepti, its already alomost a year and if u still haven't decided yet, then lemme decide it for you.

Don't go for an MBA. I know I m being bluint here, but then if it takes you a year to decide what u want to do with ur life, then one can well imagine what u will do in an oprganization. I do not want to sound too harsh, but then , this is not the way managers are supposed to take decision(Best part is u haven;t made ur decision yet..!!)

So, my advice to u, forget MBA and concentrate on the job at hand..!!
All the best..!!

Coupla things....The poster who had bumped had very clearly mentioned why he had bumped it and what his views were....And the original poster has not revisited this thread in some time....Then i dont really see the point in your reply !!! Yes, it indeed is blunt, not for the nature of suggestions that you give, but for the sole reason that it smacks of loadsa assumptions !! Take your time before getting to reply to every single thread !!

Hey dude, count me in with u on that one..!! Management is where the heart is..!!
Nothing like managing resources under a resource crunch...!! keeps u on ur toes, lots of excitement as tension prevails, and when u make it through, it's as if u just won a war...!!

That's what I like. living life on teh edge, always on the move..!! Managment is all about that ZING thing..!!
