what went wrong..??

well there are many ppl on this board who were quite well prepared for CAT 2003.. there were some who performed quite well in the sims & aims.. but the end result varied a lot from their initial expectations, their aim... cuz somethin went wrong.. now many of'em will be tryin their hand at CAT again.. i think it is better to learn from others' mistakes than your own mistakes..
so i thought of starting this thread where we can discuss our last yr's mistakes..
i want everyone who has attempted CAT earlier and will still give it again to recount their experiences.. their mistakes.... and how they plan to overcome it this time... on this thread..
a special request to guys like anil.. rohit.. and others PLEASE do chip in here...

it was pressure of performance for me. also i stopped taking full lengths a week before CAT.

choose carefully. Do seventy and get 65 right. If you're faster, go 75 and get 70 right !!

I performed well in CAT 2003 leaked version, but after that I think I lost the enthu & fire to keep my preps on the track for the feb test...

actually, i got a bit bored by the preps... so maybe that was the reason

it was attitude problem for me. wasn't sure that I'm good enough to be in IIMs.
plus, it was compounded by XLRI result where I couldn't cut the GK cut-offs afer scoring 99 percentile in mock XATs.

another mistake I made was, I didn't start the paper with my strongest section.
i was getting 25.33 in the Quant section of nov. 2003 and ended up with 15.66 on 15th feb.

hmmmm....i think i cud find only one factor to blame...."luck"

i performed well in VA and QA.....so, was confident of getting calls by the time I started my DI section....

so, I screwed up DI section and ended up with a sad ptile....if my ptile in DI section were a bit higher....I wud me in IIMs bu this time...

I think thatz the only reason I cud find....because my I literally blasted through my VA....99+ ptile.....

I was heavily dependent on English to do the bulk of the scoring...
Cudnt increase my scores in maths and DI...

Have Learnt this the hard way

1>Never change ur strategy in last few days based on ur performance of a few Mocks.
For example I never ever attempted LR ,juss bef CAT i solved the IMS paper's for LR and they were easy questions
So I got the impression that I shud stick to LR and solve them whatever comes as all of them will be correct if I get them .
2>Never Keep RC's for Last u will surely waste 5 mins then
3>Don't be egoistic while u solve the questions and stick for long on a question.
4>Whenever U give Mock the most important things are not ur score and Rank,its the way u have used that Mock to analyse urself.Two things to master :-
U shud be able to gauge the Difficultu level and then devise ur
strategy in the paper
By reading the question u shud be able to tell that in how much time u will be
able to solve that and leave those questions for the first time
wherein u think u can solve them

well...for me...time management...nothing else...first 40 minutes...DI 24 attempts....and i used to have atleast 30 attempts...so was terrified....and went for more DI...did 30 in 48 minutes...and that is where i cracked...and never came back from it...and got only 9 attempts in Maths....which was my strongest....and got down due to pressure...

so the only thing is no section more than 40 minutes....and dont pressurise urself during the exam...give it as cool as possible...all the best for 2k4..i have heard it is on the 28th of NOvember....
