So, even a fresher has very good chance of getting into IIM. It all depends on our attitude in the GDPI process.

Dude, IIMC is only IIM where gd/pi matters. IIIMA,B are profile and work-exp based. So work-exp is single most important factor for other IIM,say L,I,K. Unless you have 99.8x as fresher or extremely good profile, as a fresher you have less chance..Of course, IIMC director has openly said past academics do not matter.

I have said it before to you & i will say it again. The above statement in bold is a bit too rigid. I know people who have converted their IIM calls inspite of not fulfilling the criteria you have mentioned.

Work -ex - 20 months with Cognizant
CAT '08 - 98.85 with 4 silly mistakes (CAT '06 - 96.97 with zero preparation)
CAT '09 - I can get 99.5+, and I can bring my work-ex to 2.5 yrs , but with this profile can i ever get an IIM C or IIML convert ?
Top institutes like IIMs, ISB (even foriegn universities) put huge weightages into past acads, which is a cause of immense frustation for many of us. In Indian Universities, marks are not at all standardized and this can hurt us really bad.... What to do?
May be getting a fake marks certificate or a reserved category certificate the only way out....becoz with 57% in engg(even branch topper had 65% in our college) I cant even get a ABCL call(leave alone a final convert) even at 100 percentile CAT score.....

hey thr s no reason to be despondent. IIM C for one thing doesn't look at past acads. IIM I and K did not look at past acads, atleast for shortlisting. So you have every chance in the world. Don't worry about what happened in your past. Look ahead. To me, your future looks bright!

when u know u can't chng it, why worry abt it? i'm not saying that ppl with not so good acads are not at a disadvantage. but then, u certainly aren't out of the race. u can always explain y ur marks aren't as bad as they seem, in ur interviews. n i read in some post in pg that iim c's director has gone on record saying past acads don't matter to see. u can chk that with iim c's final selection criteria. thr is no reason to lose hope bro. cat 09 is going to be a hard battle, and let's focus on preparing for it, rather than worry about things that aren't in our control Cheers and ATB!

First know all the topics to be covered. Then the topics which you are perfect at and the topics which are to be studied hard. You'll be having an idea, how much time you would take to complete an unknown topic. If you are able to finalize that then the schedule is ready for you.
And regarding the prep strategies... Ask this question to 'n' number of people, you'll get 'n' number of answers. Each one would suggest you to follow diff books. But at the end of the day, it's how much stuff you learn counts.. So, don't go for 'n' books. Start your preparation with only one book. May be the TIME material is sufficient. Complete each and every topic of the book, so that there is no area where you couldn't answer if a question from that area comes in the exam.
Shell your arse off. Forget sleep for the next 6 months. Prepare Prepare and Prepare. Solve as many MOCK CAT's as possible.. Revise Revise and Revise. At the end of day, you should be satisfied with your preparation.
Dude... don't be so emotional by quoting, " something is choking your throat" ...
There is LIFE BEYOND CAT. CAT is not the end of the life. I know, may the social obligations etc are forcing you to get well settled. But still take CAT as an exam and not as LIFE.
Cheers.
