First of all, apologies to all for having not keeping a tab on a thread which I myself started...personal problems kept me tied up..but its fantastic to see all you guys' responses

fuzzyl0gik, I had joined TIME last year and attended quite a few classes..but didn't really find them of much use...of course I have that material which I refer to sometimes...also, I do intend to join their AIMCAT series...as for the weekend thing, I understand it completely...its just not possible for us to meet up every weekend..but even once a month meetups and resultant cogitations can work wonders...the sharing of ideas is what is important..as a matter of fact, why don't we try and meet up this weekend itself?..at any of the CCDs or Baristas..just an introductory one...lemme know what u think...

Hi All,

Sorry for peeking in.
I am in Kolkata for long time, since birth and in PG more than 4 years .. .. .

Reading some of the posts, I can see that people are confused with their starting point of preparation. Which institutes to join or how to start - is the main idea revolving around.

I think and most people ( by people I mean experienced people who are/were at good premier league colleges and will be there sooner or later ) agree with me, coaching now a days hardly makes any difference in your final selection/rejection. Don't think that I am trying to discourage you. Its you and only you who can make it or break it.

Don't jump on the bandwagon and join a institute, take time, ask people with experience around you, ask in PG and then decide your study plan.

Not all of you need a formal coaching, but also not all of you can survive without a routine coaching program.

As far as institutes in Kolkata are concerned, ( I am not making a comparison here , just sharing my experience which I gather from CAT 2005 , the CAT I took first )

TIME - Good Mocks, but sometimes over the standard simulation level, Good Faculty, Very Unstructured, Give discounts.
IMS - Moderate Mocks, sometimes very below than standard level, Moderate Faculty, Most Expensive ( as best of my knowledge ), No Discount.
CL - Good Mocks, Great Faculty, Very Structured, Give Discounts.
ERUDITE - No idea, will collect data soon.
TCC - No idea, but heard it is good for GD PI, will collect data soon.

A lots of here and there Faculties are available, but never heard any of them as appreciable.

Share your views.

For any queries, pm me.

All the best for a bright study season ahead.

Signing Off.

CAT 2005 – IIM B, IIM K Calls – Didn’t appeared for GD PI
IIFT 2005 - No Call
CAT 2006 - Skipped
CAT 2007 - No Calls
CAT 2008 – IIM B-Rejected, IIM I-Convert but Not Joined, IIM L-Convert but Not Joined
FMS 2009 - MBA - Didn't appeared for GD PI

***** End of Story *****

I am agree with "Its you and only you who can make it or break it."
But at the same time I am in favour of joining a course for structured program. People who really want a start point for plan they can very well join any good institute. But at same time joining an institute wont help much if U dont help urself.

Hey Rahul,
Good initiative.

But I am not sure whether meeting only helps us to catch and then crack the "BILLI".

As per my opinion it should be at least 5-6 people group and also we should have a predefined topic to be discussed. For that we should give at least a mock per week and find out our weak-zone. By this we will be able know to each other’s week points and able to help each other better.

We can very well start with previous year CAT paper.

Without any preplanned topic it won’t enough of help especially for us (working prof) as we have only 2 days/ week in hand.

Let me know what you people think about this.

Reg this week plan: I am sorry to say I won’t be available. But you people carry on and share ur experience.

definitely..we NEED to decide beforehand which topic(s) to discuss...that way we can try solving problems under those from various sources (mocks, puzzles, coaching materials, etc.) throughout the week, and clear our doubts as well as discuss our own important strategies, methods, approaches and shortcuts...i think thats really going to be beneficial for everyone...

i propose we have the first meeting tomorrow at the Haldiram food mall on Syed Amir Ali Avenue, just opposite to the Birla Temple, at 6-ish...the place is quite big and centrally located, hence the choice...come on Puys...lets start it!!
