Firstly, I think the results were definitely very good. I certainly didn't expect the math to work out so well when I was clicking on the X v/s Y when filling in the survey

The interface is really cool. Kudos to whoever came up with that - you will make a great product manager

Now wearing my black hat:

1. I personally feel (and nothing you guys could have done about it) that PUMBA and Sydenham were unfairly placed in the 50s behind many less deserving colleges.

2. I still don't know why Forest Mgmt, Petroleum Mgmt, Rural Mgmt and stuff are clubbed together. Heck! there is even a Univ of Delhi course thats not even an MBA!

Re: [2009] PaGaLGuY.com B-school Rankings results - Make the best out of it! - 18-11-2008, 01:09 PM

In the first column of the rankings, the pop up which comes when u move the cursor on the b-school name shows the "view discussion, article" link.
However only in the first column that link searches for the corresponding b school of the second column.

For example IIMA search gives SCMHRD
IIML gives IIT Kanpur
IIMI gives VGSOM etc.

Is it a bug or some problem with my browser. Other than the first column this problem does not seem to appear elsewhere

Could be a bug. Once the dev team comes in (they left office after 3 days), we'll take a look at it

Nice rankings.

In the comparison section, can we have sorting based on individual columns?

We thought about that deep - is there is any specific reason though? What kind of insight would you be looking for by sorting?

It's difficult to interpret the rankings with not a significant change in size of the respondent base. Going by the placement figures, SIOM fares better than almost all the B-Schools placed after the rank of 50 and many between the rank range of 30-50.

Anyways, I mentioned the above point just to give a suggestion that from next year, PG should also provide an option whereby a respondent should be free not to choose between two B-Schools in case he/she doesn't have any prior knowledge to compare the B-Schools. Perhaps that's why some B-Schools like IMI, IRMA, Great Lakes and GIM have not been able to find a place in Top-30 list.
Varun,

I want to thank you for the very best and balanced opinion even though your own school has taken a dive in the rankings. I am extremely happy to see how level headed you are on the subject. I may not be able to address all the questions - let me tell you how I would think about it.

Since its a perception system which works equally well across the nation - you have seen the variations in rankings show up remarkably well. Now when you mention a college like IMI, or Great Lakes, they may have performed differently within their own regional rankings which is the beauty of all the data we capture. A lot of assumptions get squashed because a lot of rankings come up with little data and forces the end user to make a lot of assumptions. Say school X from North came up higher in the overall rankings, with other rankings you may just assume that since the school is strong in north, it has ranked well. With us - you see how they did across all demographies, regions etc and get a much better sense of why they are placed how they are.

Hi, I am in my first year pursuing PGDM course @ SIESCOMS....

And i am shocked to see it getting 76th rank...much behind than MET, IFCAI-Mumbai, ITM-Kharghar, Dalmia......SIESCOMS surely dont deserve this...

We have a great faculty and the dean's of respective streams: MKTG, Finance, HR, Systems help each one of us in choosing our specialization from the day we enter the institute...

Each one of them take an extra effort in mentoring us...so at the end of the day we dont have to compromise with our career...

This year the faculty, management and student council have arrived together and set up various new agendas which would be out to everyone very soon. And this will definitely take SIESCOMS at a new height...

Even in this ongoing market crisis..our placements have been happening in full swing without any compromisation....Our course has been updated from time to time...One can pick up any top institute in Mumbai and compare its course structure with ours...SIECOMS wont lag in any way as it believes in delivering quality education...

SIESCOMS ought to stand in top 50.....And i request every MBA aspirant not to select any college on the basis of ranking alone...It can highly mislead u....

Proud to be a SIESCOMITE!!!

Pratik,

One of the things you need to avoid on this thread is 'my daddy strongest'. Spend some time understanding the methodology and use the other threads to highlight the various facets of your specific school.

Thanks

Great Job !!

I feel rankings would have been much better had there been an additional industry/HR/recruiter's perception also...because at the end its the industry perception that matters...Hope PG will comeout with this perception also in future...
