Risky Decision !!!....Any Comments - 15-05-2004, 03:09 PM

Hi PGites,

I got a final admit into IIM L .
But i have decided to give it a go-by so that i can have some work ex and aim for the big 3 next year.
Will that make any difference ? And how risky that proposition will be. AnyPointers ???????....

At least few ppl wud be happy with decision who r in W/L in IIM L.

Cheers

Kudos to your guts! If you can do it now, why
can't you do it next year? If you are really
confident, I don't think there's anything wrong in this decision.

But one caution notice:-
CAT is in your hands, and you can do it. But
we cannot always predict the interview panel.
If you could manage that part, the Success is surely yours

hi dude...
as diplodocus was saying.... once you are into a job( you havent specified what job you are going for) a lot of people lose the enthu to study and it will be a herculean task to both work and prepare esp since you mabbe working till 8 in the night and then to come back and prepare for CAT is a tough ask buddy as you might have noticed that CAT itself takes a lot of time when you prepared for CAT 2003.

IIML is right up there with A B and C and me dont really see any reason why you should leave L because they have really excellent facilities and faculty..

a bird in hand is worth two in the bush...

so take L and dont take the chance... but again your case is objective as it depends on how desperately you want to go into A B C and do you really think you can put in the effort again....

if i were you I am off to Lucknow buddy...

adios

Iw oul sugegst u go for Cat again, if u r sure u can do great in the written, cz if u do exceedingly well in the Written, GD/PI is a mere formality. tehy wont chuck u out, unless and until u r toooooooooooooooo bad ! ( which i somehow feel u arent !)
Go for CAT again I say!!

hi

just a few thoughts for u to consider

1. next year we mite not have the CAT, courtesy the o/g minister Sh MMJ
so there mite be some confusion regarding the successor exam.... AND it mite be centrally organised.......

2. if u wanna get some serious work-ex and not just some months on paper... u mite not get much prep simply becoz the work wud eat into ur practise time....
i know a friend who was seriously prepin for CAT, but took up a job @ a sw company... and then the trainins n then project simply didnt give him ny time for study....

3. Also L is pretty gud itself AND it IS an IIM

However on the flip side
the work ex wud look grr8 on ur profile when u get the GD/PI calls next year...
it wud also pobably give u a better sense of wat u wanna do (or NOT wanna do )after ur MBA...

very very true dude. I have more than 2yrs of work ex and trying to study with your job is tough. I personally dont know you but more than 95% of my working colleagues have the same problem. The rest 5 % are exceptions which you might be !!! The steam simply runs out and some sort of complacency seeps in when you start working. Say you take up a job Im sure you would certainly grow in your organization in 3 yrs since you are a brilliant dude and once you get more responsibilities studying aint't that easy yaar (been there done that) and like some else said in this thread bird in hand is worth 20000000 in bush. IMHO take that IIM L seat ..dude its an IIM after all !!!!!!!
Anyways its your call ..
