One more issue is the credibility of the govt!!!

i have a relative who is quite high in Gujarat university, and he told me, they havent received one paisa from the govt in the past 2 years....

so how can the IIMs trust the govt when they say that the students will be paid for!!!

arre this giving money will be now afterwards it'll slow down... it'll then become something like how we get our govt. scholarships ...after 3-4 yr. when inflation and interest moves up so the govt. actually pays less !!!

this is my first message to the group..

i feel what's underlying the controversy is "good intentions gone astray"
i have seen joshi on screen a few times and the man carries a conviction that he is doing all this for the common good.

its a fact that iims have been established to serve INDIA and not multinational firms that are the recruiters here more often..it is not to be forgotten that people who join these firms also contribute to INDIAN GDP/GNP and that perhaps, they influence the crucial decisions on investments which helps our nation...
but despite this, it is to be seen that this arrangement is largely despite the prevailing system and not because of it..

now consider this....
there are hundreds of jobs in INDIA in the government and public sector requiring managerial talents but lack patronage from B-School grads just because they are underpaid.
iims have been established and nurtured to satisfy such requirements..
otherwise, what is the point of the government spending money on institutions that though global brand names do not serve INDIAN cause..
someone who has to pay 4 lakhs to study here will find it so much more difficult to serve this cause because of the lack of remuneration..in this regard, bringing down of educational costs might work in the nation's favour...again, i am not saying here that most iim-grads would do this social service if the fees are brought down..because ppl with such ethics are far and few...but reducing fees will certainly help those who have good intentions..

i seek comments on my opinion and further opinons..

warm regards,
Shashikiran PB
