cutoffs

If someone is clearing the cutoffs what it means in percentile terms? Also, one of my friends told me that to get an iim call u need to clear all the cutoffs as well as get a really good score in one of the subjects? is it true that clearing the cutoffs alone is not sufficient? also could someone tell me the actual cutoffs for cat 2007?

Percentile based cut offs are relative to the students who appear with you.

Yes there are some criteria with regard to the actual score you get. I think they have some criteria as to the sectional score and the overall score. It is around 25% of each section and 33% of the overall (others correct me if I am wrong).

Is cutoffs sufficient? Well if you clear all the cutoffs, but dont score enough overall you might not get shortlisted. If a bschool has to select 1200 students for their GD/PI rounds, then the applicants are selected as per profile and score. And this again depends on when the application dates for the college are closed. If it is pre-CAT results then expect the cutoffs to be slightly lower. If it is post-CAT you might have a cutoff which is higher.

Percenties are given on the basis of your score and other candidaties score.

If you clear all the cut offs- that translates into a very good score automatically. Clearning all the cut offs is more than sufficient if you have a good acads or extra curriculars or work ex, then your chances improve further.

As far as calls are concerned, no one can clearly predict who is getting calls from which colleges!! So prepare well and crack it big time.
