hey guys
the number of alphabets used = 9, so we get a hint, they are all *distinct* natural numbers.
c=9
r=6
o=2
s=3
a=5
d=1
n=8
g=7
e=4
this solution set will solve the qn as.....
cross+roads = danger
=>96233+62513 = 158746
which is true.
maybe there are more than one solutions, dint try to find.....

im going by this....
actually theres some modification
its CROSS + ROADS=DANGER
...by the way i think solution of "cross+road = danger" will not be possible through similar logic (distinct solutions) as:
d has to be 1 (assuming it is not 0, else it would be quite absurd);
a has to be 0;
=> cross
+ro01
--------
d1nger
therefore s+1= r
which is possible (assuming they r distinct) only when s = 9, which will mean r = 0 and hence r = a, and again spoiling the distinct number assumption.
a word for distinct number assumption, well if they r not distinct then the problem would have many solutions, e.g.
take all alphabets to be 0, and hence true.

well just forgot a line
>therefore s+1= r
>which is possible (assuming they r distinct) only when s = 9, which will >mean r = 0 and hence r = a, and again spoiling the distinct number >assumption.
this is so because s+0 has to be g in the next column (tens), so it must get a carry from the units place, which is not possible if for instance s=2 and r= 3.

hey class_apart,
the problem which u have put up was the same one that came in our university exam
in A.I. held last month.Itz done using constraint satisfaction ,as august has shown.
I think this has got just one answer.
There are easier ones having multiple answers .Those are the 3 digit ones like
ALL + THE =BEST.
Other similar ones are BOYS + LOVE=GIRLS,..(cannot recall anymore)
