Daguerre produced pictures on copper plates; today many of our photographs never become tangible things, but instead remain filed away on computers and cameras, part of the digital ether that envelops the modern world. At the same time, our patience for the creation of images has also eroded. Children today are used to being tracked from birth by digital cameras and video recorders and they expect to see the results of their poses and performances instantly. “Let me see,” a child says, when you take her picture with a digital camera. And she does, immediately. The space between life as it is being lived and life as it is being displayed shrinks to a mere second. Yet, despite these technical developments, photographs remain powerful because they are reminders of the people and things we care about. They are surrogates carried into battle by a soldier or by a traveler on holiday. They exist to remind us of the absent, the beloved, and the dead. But in the new era of the digital image, they also have a greater potential for fostering falsehood and trickery, perpetuating fictions that seem so real we cannot tell the difference.

I got it wrong, my answer is a sentence ahead! ;(

thanks for the source.....but iam pretty sure that choice b (images are after all....) concludes the para

the question asked is what concludes the para and choice a will only elongate it....

Para Completion

The Daddy Mma Ramotswe had a detective agency in Africa, at the foot of Kgale Hill. These were its assets: a tiny white van, two desks, two chairs, a telephone, and an old typewriter. Then there was a teapot, in which Mma Ramotswe--the only lady private detective in Botswana--brewed redbush tea. And three mugs--one for herself, one for her secretary, and one for the client. What else does a detective agency really need? Detective agencies rely on human intuition and intelligence, both of which Mma Ramotswe had in abundance. No inventory would ever include those, of course. But there was also the view, which again could appear on no inventory. How could any such list describe what one saw when one looked out from Mma Ramotswe's door? To the front, an acacia tree, the thorn tree which dots the wide edges of the Kalahari; the great white thorns, a warning; the olive-grey leaves, by contrast, so delicate. In its branches, in the late afternoon, or in the cool of the early morning, one might see a Go-Away Bird, or hear it, rather. And beyond the acacia, over the dusty road, the roofs of the town under a cover of trees and scrub bush; on the horizon, in a blue shimmer of heat, the hills, like improbable, overgrown termite mounds.

Set 222 :Q 63: Sentence Correction - 18-11-2007, 06:32 PM

The Concepts and Theories of Modern Democracy Pg 71

By Anthony Harold Birch

The sentence in the Book reads as follows:

It is sometimes said that democratic

government originated in the city states

of ancient Greece and that democratic ideals have been handed down to us from that time.

In truth, however, this is is an unhelpful assertion.

The Greeks gave us the word, but did not provide us with a model.

Dude! Read the first line again " Nevertheless , Photographs still retain some of the magical allure that the earliest daguerreotypes inspired " ad all throughout the passage the author goes on to say how changes in technology has affected without even alluding to the idea mentioned in the first line. So I think the option concludes the para aptly by saying "Yet, Despite these technological developments , photographs still remain powerful because they are reminders of the people and things we care about."

U convinced?
