Question CAT 07 and quant problems - 29-04-2007, 12:07 AM

The whole universe is conspiring against me. On my first attempt to post there was an error with pagalguy. Second attempt, my comp conked out. Anyways, here goes everything.

I appeared for CAT 06 and summing up my performance it was just pathetic. Ironically I felt that Cat was quite easy last year. I didn't too well and couldn't attempt much due to lack of knowledge and time mismanagement. I had attempted only 2 questions I think. However when I came back home and saw, I could easily attempt 5 questions more, if I had the time. Frankly speaking I didn't put in much effort. But this year I have to get through and one of the iim's. Thats a long way though. Cutting it short, my questions are:

1. I am a very average/below average student. I really dont have anything to boast about my academics specially maths. I was terrible in maths in class 8 and 9. However I managed to score 94 in my class 10th boards. But everybody from my school did the same. I remember putting in effort in maths that year. So I really cant be sure the reason of success, hard work or easy paper? Still I can confidently say that my brain doesn't work that well when coming to quant problems. My fundamentals and basics are very weak and I don't know what are strengths and weaknesses. Thus I would like to know how can I strengthen and improve my quant? Also I have a non-technical background which further aggravates my problems in this section.

2. Last year I had joined CL. I am not very satisfied with their fundamental books though their exercise books are of decent standard. Should I purchase any other book for practising quants like R.S Agarwal/ Arun Sharma etc?

3. My college final exams is in the month of June. Probably in the 2nd week of June. Right now college has been dissolved thus I have time till June. I don't plan to start my preparations for final exams till the last week of May. I can devote 4 hrs for my quant preparation. How can I utilise this time optimally for my preparation?

I read through CAT stories of earlier aspirants and I must say I'm inspired and have realised that analysis of mocks are seriously important. However I was wondering if anybody could post their tryst with quant and how did they cope with it, considering that they were weak.

Looking for a reply from the gurus of PG and CAT over here.

Great forum for future management aspirants.

Thanks!
Cheers and congrats for people who made through IIM this year.

arvin yaar seriously everything is going wrong for u...and to add to the latest u have posted ur queries in wrong section......anyway post ur queries here
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/cat-an...2007-a-29.html (Preparation Agenda For CAT 2007)...... post ur profile here..... http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/cat-an...-2007-a-4.html (Students profile of "PG" for CAT 2007)
anyway now in regards to ur query i would suggest u to go through any class 10 maths book ....this would help to get the basics right...and then after u can move on to hi-fi books.....if u can get hold of a time or ims material then that may help u in getting ur basics correct....
best of luck
