The eternal Q of coaching classes- my sad exp at TIME

Now that most of us are done with the interviews at iims and other prestigious colleges, I just wanted to share my experience with Time Hyd. I really dont know how TIME owrks in other cities. No intended offence to anyone in particualr but I really wanted to share my experience and let peopel know, how profit oriented and compettitive oraganizations are that they forget the true spirit as to why the organization has come up in the first place.(of course not just profit making)


Well , I statred my cat prep fro cat 2007 joined up IMS at hyderabd ( thank my stars). I decided to go for IMS to avoid the huge masses at TIME and i wasnt very sure abt how CL is at hyd. Of course more than coaching classes what matter is one's preparation at home really.

Then came the MOckat/Aimcat series Time. I have read so much on this PG itself that TIME at other places lets you take the mock cat on saturday or monday..and stuff liekt hat. I thought apart from IMS goign fro TIME would do good too fopr my prep and i would get the extra practice.
So , i joined up TIme series even though they told they wouldnt give the paper if not taken. THat was fien with me as i read in PG and heard from my friends , they used to take the tests on monday mornign by saying office work..and other reasons.

What im getting at is...

I took the initial aimcats..and then IMS simcats started. I relaly ditn want to miss out both as i paid for both as i wanted more practice.. looking at my friends..they managed to take both .
Well, here coem s the mistake I have made.. ) I went to the time secbad centre and told then im a full ttime student at IMS and would like to take the TIME tests on monday. THey outrightly said NO. I felt really bad as 4000 gone down the drain, i pleaded and said these peoel are doign liek this and giving aimcats by saying they have work, what are u gonna lose if you let me give them?
all iwanted is to give my aimcats. Peple lie and tell u guys office..i did that mistake of not coming up with some reason, and u guys are denyign outrightly, I have also mentioned in few citiest they let u give the aimcats flexibly and whyt he hell these peopel are so rigid. BUT NO AVAIL.

I felt bad as i felt it was unfair how everyone were cooly taking tests and i was denied inspite of paying for it...as i was foolish to say that I was an IMS student and i coudl nt take test on sunday morning.

i went twice to the TIME centeres but no avail. THe moment they knew i was na IMS student, they just ditn allow.
THe lady finally agredd she would let me give the aimcat ONCE not more than that, after a lot of pleadign and convincing. The reason i said competetive is the momnet i talked abt IMS the lady was liek oh IMS! its good but we realyl dont do this for students there and etc.

I went home, was really disgusted. What did these guys want, to prove their point . THey allow peoel who say other work and coolly give exams what abt me? ..

They had no intention of helping their students out and allwoign them to have more practice which they deseve.thast the whole purpose of the institution right? I really thought this was unfair. The grounds on which they denied really unfair.

I approached my IMS HYD director, i shoudl have doen this first. and he completely agreed to let me give it on monday and owrst case collect teh paper on wedneesday and give it at home. The self discipline we have , we will def do that. othjerwise would have never goeb through this process.

I decided, let my 4000 go down the drain i will not give the aimcats. Hell with them..will do my best with simcats..and here i am now contented and happy.

I really dint post this to slander TIme or anythign but i wanted the public to know about my genuine experince with this org and their lack of concern and ego.
I waited till my gd/pi calls are over to put it on this forum.

For all hyderabadis... the experince at IMS was good... i cannot comment much abt the calss room teaching thats alomost same everywhere what matters is the efforst you put in. But consideration for students, the peopel at IMS are very helpful and accomodative..and not liek a missionatry school.

PS: If a new thread was not supposed to be started for this, mods pls fiorgive me, i really ditn know if i could get the attention of people with old threads. and sorry for the informal way of writing

hey mate, you raised a very valid point.
I also could not understand the very reason of why these TIME guys are so finicky about the so called rules. The whole purpose of a coaching class at this level is to help you in your preparation, they should behave like considerate mentors and friends, why they behave like school teachers?
I also had a bad experience. Just before the 4th mock CAT i had severe fever and cold. it improved a bit on Sunday morning and i decided to go for the test.
I did really well in the 1st section but after that I started to feel a bit dizzy, and anyway my one hand was always busy with handkerchief(to help my running nose ), after some time i felt that i was not able to put the efforts that i wanted.. so there was no point in just sticking there, and aggravate my illness, so I decided to leave the paper in between.
As usual i could not find anyone from TIME in any of the classes on my floor , I came down to first floor to finally get hold of a faculty frm TIME, I told him about my condition and handed over my OMR sheet to him, he said that I have to sit there for another hour to complete the test. , and believe me he was serious about this.
I was really shocked at this, I asked him about how was it going to affect anyone if i leave the paper in between because I am not in a condition to do so.
Looking at my poor condition, He said that I may leave, but he will not allow me to take the Q paper .
Now this was too much for me .. how was this relevant? this is my paper, i have paid for this..i have already seen this/attempted it.. and anyway I can get it by Xeroxing after getting it frm my friends.
He was too adamant to hear any reasoning, I also got irritated(it was already very difficult for me to argue in this condition) and handed over the OMR and started to leave, he tore my OMR sheet saying that it will not be evauated in that case..(as if i really cared for that )

but seriously guys that wasn't a good experience, I had done really well in Quants and a good score in even 1 section (seeing it officially on the website is different from checking it yourself) could have given me some confidence and above all the satisfaction of getting something in return for the willpower and interest i showed in trying to attempt the AIMCAT despite my illness.

Then even during GD/PI classes, they had some small booklets on GD and PI, I wanted to read them once but again to my surprise they plainly refused to give them to me, saying that these are only for regular class students. Common yaar! these booklets hardly cost you 10 Rs each, I have also paid for my GD/PI classes, at least sometime think about the students.

I feel that the problem is just that the guys at the lower hierarchy don't know anything about the philosophy of coaching and what does it mean? maybe they need some advice to be more student oriented, They need to understand that for a coaching insti we, the studens and our success is their biggest asset. and all these rules are not indispensable in a situation when avoiding them can actually help a student.

Absolutely correct...!!! they take money from us. and then treat us in a very bad manner...one day i was late by 5 minutes to my center..they refused to let me take the paper and they wont even let me have the paper too...in business, customer is king but they behave the other way! i felt like suing them for this...i still wish someone would do it one day and bring them to knees!

Yes,I totally agree..Though TIME AIMCATs were very good,TIME people should learn professionalism from IMS..i felt it so many times...The worst experience was once while asking my possible pecentile in cat,the lady (centre manager i guez) was totally confused between percentage score and percentile..And she was adament..It happened in TIME,Bangalore...I stopped going to TIME for any matter after that..

its the sheer no of people who give aimcats make them such hypocratic abt their rules... but still the tests are good cant really say abt classes as never joined them

time is money and yes they are makin good amount of it ....

I joined time in jan 06 north campus delhi aat that i was promised good faculty 30 ppl in batch bla bla ....but from april onwards all the faculty changed two batches got merged and there were around 50 ppl in class .....some time they said u r late class mein seat nahin hai go back .......F**k!

they have changed 6 maths teacher in search of a good teacher but failed completely......
now test series .....

if u miss one aimcat they politely beta apne miss kar dia apki galti humare pass paper stock mein nahin hai .......
now schedulin....sometimes paper is scheduled at 9 at 10 at 11 or on saturdays or aimcat time might clash with ur class timings so u have a option there.......
if by chance u forgot to carry ur i card u r not allowed to give the test even if have ur id no.
now as i am working and joined weekend batch i was promised that every class of this batch will be on weekends ------ek aur jhoot
guys i almost missed all extra classes all extra sessions and many gd/pi session because they are scheduled on weekdays.
So my advice is if u r working throw ur money in dustbin but please dont join time in any case.
now finally the results ----
i was comfortable in quant and di but my weakness is verbal....i pleaded with time faculty to help me in this section .......but kisi ne koi help nahin ki mughe bas mili ek tarik tarik pe tarik tarik pe tarik lekin kisi ne time diya aur kuch padhaya nahin bas is section k question practice kar lo package ki yeah exercise kar lo ..bla bla .....
aur fir cat ka exam verbal mein -ve marks still i managed to get 88 %ile.....on my maths and di......
so my advice is go to cl or ims instead.......best is self study

to be prepared you can actually join any test series bcoz they dont make much difference

other than that just solve any damn paper of any institute u get ur hands on and practice thats the only key for cat ...

I have to say this....I am 200% satisfied with the CL center in Mumbai(Parle).
I was a full-time student thr and the flexibility they offer with scheduling et al is amazing. Most of my friends had joined IMS but werent satisfied at all..
So, as far as CL-Mumbai goes, I can vouch for it.

hey revintk.. my take IMS is d insti... go for it... me too in ims... let me know if u need any details... IMS has come out wid a unique pedagogy.. n this time it seems they r tracking d individual pperformance of each n every student.. tats awesome!!! go for it..
