Hi allgo,

You are in the same position, what I was in last year. Actually, I had started preparing for CAT, but then I got a call letter from Infosys. I expereinced the same thing what you are feeling now.

Well, I have too say that I am lucky enough to be in a department, where work pressure isn't too much (by this i mean, I don't have to slog from morning till mid-night). But, it depends on the project you are in. One of my room-mates spends 14-16 hrs a day in Infy working itself. But, most of the Infoscions leave the office by 5:30pm. So, what I used to do, was to spend atleast 1-2hrs daily on my preparation.

Also, I had joined CL Test Series. Those weekly mocks ensured that I stayed in touch with the studies.

So, its all up to you my dear friend, if you get an offer from a reputable company, I will suggest you to better consider it, rather than dropping it. Thats 'coz, expereince can be very good value addition to your profile. Who knows, that might be the reason which can land you a final call from IIMs.

As for as leaves, i did'nt applied for them. If 3-4 months preparation can't do anything, then a week won't do anything much either.

allgo, its not so difficult, you just have to take out some time from your daily routine, and work hard. thats it. There's no short-cut to success, as others might say.

Regards,
Manpreet

Hi allgo!
first off dont be so sure u have mucked this cat ...
but my two pence worth of advice

I work for an MNC as a software pro...and work is tough...u are expected to slog ....I did manage a bit of preparation in the earlier days of work during some training and all that...( this I doubt if u can do if u join Infy and TCS - CTS it's possible )
Two full length tests a week,
saturdays and sundays totally devoted to CAT
an hour or so a day for some sectional tests
...this is what u can manage if u have the determination and in my honest opinion it's enough.

The greater danger than not being able to prepare is that you start to lose focus on furthur studies once you start working because there is that taste independance and good money that after 6 months you think that the line u are in is pretty good after all...

But a word of caution ...dont fall into the trap of sitting at home without working preparing for CAT... it's too much to gamble and waste of a years worth of valuable work ex.

Just my opinion tho

Carrying work home is mainly in the form of studying - atleast for me.
As an example I work on Unix so my form of carrying work home would be to study Unix Internals at home.

Hi Allgo,

I have been working in an MNC for about an year now. It depends on which field you are assigned to. In most of the cases, it was slog during the weekdays and on weekends there was time to prepare after catching up on my sleep. But there is a tendency to think not to write CAT again after getting you salaries and stuff but u have to overcome that. Do not even think about sitting at home. nothing is worse than that.

hope it is of some use to you.

hmm see amount of time u spend each day doesn't matter and hour or 2 is ok the point is u have to be in constatnt touch and have to be down with cat fever thru the year
U have some preparation already
for u it shud be just keeping up the tempo.

Go for the job and U will always get that much time wether it is in office or ur place.

U have to look for those 2 hrs daily and u will find them how busy u are.

cheers

hey allgo,
i work in an MNC and am lucky to be in a project that does not demand too much of your time.saturdays and sundays should be fine and i guess you can make it up on those two days but a word of caution.you should not get lax after coming home from office after a 10 -12 hour days work .try to make it up by studying at least a hour a day till sept and then slog the last 2 months.i missed out this CAT thanks to quants.so i will be there with you next year.in case you are in your final year you can very well keep in touch till july coz the cmpny in all probs will be calling you only by july after that only 4 months remains.in that take out 1-2 months of training in which literally you dont do any work.so that too acts as a bonus .sio its all the last 2 months and how you brace it up.

cheers,
Prashanth

hey this string of replies went too long i suppose...but it'll b a topic of interest for
many...

see, y we work 12-14hrs a day-n-hav a hectic schedule alltogether? coz we have deadlines to meet n prove ourselves professionally in this intial phase of our career..

same kinda dedication n determination is required by we workin professionals towards cat...2 hrs a day from now on complemented with few more hours over the weekend will do.. i know sayin this is quite simple coz at times i too find it hard but as ur projects have deadlines...i'll say ur "Dreams should also have deadlines too meet".

go along with some like minded partner/friend, this helps a lot. u dont feel alone n maintain ur enthu n consistency....

most important if u hav an option of workin...go for it. no point dropping n studyin at home all alone. remember... this is CAT not IIT-JEE!!

all d best

adios
pravi

Once I make up my mind, I'm full of indecision !!

When i reach home, I really don't think anything about office or its work. I just spend some time watching TV, relax or freak out some where for a short while. Its after having dinner, when my roomies go to sleep, i study 'coz at time, there are no distractions, and i'm able to concentrate more. But, I do take some off days, where I make sure, I don't study at all. This relaxes my mind a lot.

Regards,
Manpreet

PS: Don't worry about the job. If you have the will to crack CAT, just go for it. Give your damn best!
