Does wrk experience has any relevance left? - 27-12-2006, 04:48 PM

Well after all the exams n evthing ...it is time for GD n PI for all.......

i was discussing this with many ppl .....seniors juniors profesors n many....tht has work experience lost its charm or so called extra + points while appearing in the interview..

The reason:- Some estimates (newspapers n Big ppl in 1 big insttiute) indicate approx 60-70 k ppl with experience appeared this time in CAT so even if 5% of those r called tht means 3000-4000 ppl......the root cause being ....ppl being emplyed in insane quantiies by IT Comapnies....48000 ppl have joined TCS in last 2 yrs......50000 ppl joined in Infy n wipro combined.......n so on.....

So all those guys if u r wrkin in a Formula 1 workshop or a space agaency or a DRDO then u need not wrrry otherwise experience or no experience i dnt think it MATTERs??

I think experience seriously matters...
but I think a similar thread already exists...
if you post your query over there, I think you will get many similar responses!!

Now what kind of question is that dddd??? Of course work ex has a big relevance. But it depends on how you project it to the panel. You can always make a boring job look cool
Yes many if not most of the ppl who write CAT are s/w professionals. But not all s/w projects are boring. This I say sincerely. There's much you learn-team work, time management blah blah. So the bottom line, my friend, is how you finally project it

the iims give a damn about workex.. coz thats not the way the iims are supposed to work... the iims want people who are ready to put their head into the course and curriculum and devote somethin like 12-14 hours a day on a consistent basis... once u clear cat and u are ready to do that the iims will willingly accept u... and so would ur future recruiters...

i asked my friend at IIMA, whats the one thing thats common between everyone there and he said 'the sheer ability to do hard work'...

although the iims are tryin hard to pick people seemingly with workex, thats only tryin to be someone u are not.. workex means something substantial like what they require at US b schools and even at ISB not the iim kind of techie with 3.5 months of workex while he was fillin the form...

bottomline is that they dont give a damn

Well - it depends on the way u look at it.. Work ex may or may not matter much for an interview.. But u get to learn lots of stuff when you get into a job .. It's upto each person but on the whole if u keep ur eyes and ears open and enjoy what you are doing, a couple of years of working can change the way u look at life !! It gives u a sense of confidence, a perspective on where you are and what you can do in life !! Again, it varies from person to person - but someone who works for a considerable period of time would be cheating you if he says - he wasted these years or he didnt gain anything out of them !!
