Too Late for 3 yrs experience ??? - 11-09-2006, 09:50 AM

Hi All

I have been working for past 3 yrs now . I am planning to appear in CAT , this time (FULl TIME COURSE) . Is it too late for me to join a full time course at this point . I'll have roughly 4 yrs , by the time actual MBA courses start ( just in case i manage to sneak in .......) . Is it worth giving a try or should i lend preference to PART time .

It all depends on what you really want form the course as Anurag83 has said..I have 6 & 1/2 years of experience & by the time the course starts I will have 7 Years of exp..You should consider one important thing, whether this MBA will give value addition to your profile..Onething is Full time MBA is always better than part time..& Believe me you are never late for anything & it all depends on how you look at it...

Dude, wake up!!! If you go by international terms, 4 years of experience is way too less for an mba!!!
Go for full time courses if you have the time. If you don't go for executive mba(s), not part time mbas(s).

Step wise progression of a desi work-ex MBA guy :-

1) Pre-MBA (Between the time u get an admit and the course starts) - High Hopes
2) During MBA I term - Going under
3) MBA II term - Coming back to life
4) Summers - Be quick or be dead
5) Term IV - Wasted years
6) Term V - F*ck the system
7) Term VI "Darn !! I have to get back to IT" - Sad but true
8>Day of graduation - Sab bakwaas hai

Anyone with > 3 yrs of work ex better think abt it hard when it comes to desi MBA's.

Coming to ur Q, full time definitely makes sense but look for a 1 yr course if u have 4 yrs workex and yeah 4 yrs aint late....though u'll be the uncle at any desi B-skool other than ISB.

hi ppl

one thing v need to keep in mind is that doin an m.b.a is worth or not...

to me after having 4 yrs of work exp .it is worth 1000 times better than slogging myself of in the job rarely having promotions n then ur growth...there r many pros n cons involved like if the person's financial position is a constraint then he need to take a call on whether to continue his job or pursue mba wher he vill loose 2 yrs salary staright away....

inspite of financial constraints n age constraints if one goes ahead n does his m.b.a then i would advise that would b more beneficial in the longer run than beeing titular...

as my frnds said value addition n adding weightages to cv can b done through part time mba...but tell me how many ppl hav succeded in doin so??

one example...beeing a mech engineer frm a reputed institute ..i hav slogged for 4 yrs with satisfactory perks but no promotion wher as when i consider my peers havin done their mba from a decent college may b a b+ college staright away join as asttmgrs then b com managers with in ayr or so...i'm speaking in reference with a techincal job....soft ware may b its different...but in over all i hope it is the same...

at last one should look at long term benefits rather than shotterm n constraints involved in it..

Well articulated Karthik..This is what exactly I was trying to say (even I had experienced the same)......In my case Iam really not looking at salary as a major thing as I already have a decent Job which pays me good..But I took 7 years for me to reach this level ie an Asst Manager & in my company my next Jump will be Regional manager which will easily take another 5 years. So for experienced guys may be 4 + years more than fetching you a great salary, MBA is a ladder which helps you to climb the corporate building much faster & helps you for a better Job/ field change..Thats it....

What the hell are you talking about dude?
Of course you aren’t late for an MBA and like someone said rightly above; this is the least amount of work ex expected in the foreign Bschools.
And for that matter, as someone’s’ signature states, there is no wrong time to do a right thing.

Re: Too Late for 3 yrs experience ??? - 12-09-2006, 04:47 PM

my dear aashu

as u rightli pointed that there is there is no wrong time to do a right thing like m.b.a.....(fulltime/parttime course)

but our motive here in this article is to help out our friend who is in dilemma whether to go for part time /full time m.b.a......so let us confine ourselves to that ..n try to give a clear picture to him ...so that he would get benefitted...

as i said there r in fact pros n cons for experienced ppl applyin for mba....like if u cross around 7-8 yrs of work exp n apply to some b-schools then chances r there that he might b turned down frm gettin an admission !!!!!why cos of the silly reason that he could not do it ,when he had 1,2,3 yrs of xp...(could b considered not sincere, inefficient what not)

of course foreign universities hav no constraints whatsoever on the work ex front....but what i understand is our friend is not after those foreign universities

thank u
