Since Oracle has acquired PeopleSoft, do you see the market for PeopleSoft diminishing rapidly in the next 2-3 years? Further, would it be wise to work in PeopleSoft at the moment or switch to another solution?
I see a lot of jobs for PeopleSoft professionals, but still I am a bit anxious.
What do you advise?
i wud suggest tat u shud keep option of moving to other ERPs..such s Oracle Apps, SAP etc...open...des ERPs hav better market....

Hi

Have a few doubts regarding the Whole ERP domain and products...
I have 2 yrs of exp on working on SAP PS as a end user no impementation or power user exp...currently giving CAT and the whole gamut of exams hoping to make it thru one of the top B schools and want to specialise in SCM....end goal...get into ERP consulting...my q is possible?

I know a lot of people do get into SAP implementation across domains once they are out of B schools....but i do not want to work on SAP as such...want to move onto specialised products like Ariba or work wit Manhattan who develop their own products....is this possible?

thx...

some one suggest me...

a few months back i too was vacillating about joining some ERP/SAP thingie or not... so went ahead and made enquiries with Siemens about SAP training they provide... They suggested me to go for SD module..as i have around 3 years experience in Marketing..
\
but after that i spoke to some of my friends said that it would be difficult for me to secure a good job as i have 3 years non-IT back ground... that really perturbed me going ahead with this option... though still is sometime think of it... but investing 2.5 lakhs without a job security makes me look other ways...

so i just want the industry insiders to give there take... moreover i m not aiming for ABAP...just application...

thnx in advance...

PS: some one plz lemme know are there any MBA institute which impart SAp training (in curriculum or as an auxilliary course)... and for what course (like MBA-IT, MBA-SYSTEMS, MBA-Operations etc.)

Dear Friend,

Let us take the queries one by one,
First, SCM Specialization - ERP Consulting: Hmm, to get into SCM and full time consulting, there are two entry points...first as mentioned U can go for an MBA from a good B-school and big players would pick U up directly from there; second is U get into an organization where U get experience both in Materials Management / Sales and Distribution Functions, then edge towards SCM. There have been other cases also, where I have seen college passouts getting directly into SCM, just after joining a company (but that depends on how companies shuffle their resources, one doesn't have a say in that).

Second, Specialized Products (Ariba etc) or Product Development (Manhattan): Same paths, an MBA can also lead U there as well as work-ex in the relevant domain. But chances are that a lil bit of a fight would be required at this stage, cos justifying urself in the topic the company is looking for and the topic U have been working on becomes an area of conflict. But, I think Product Development is something that requires U to be a domain specialist, very well versed in Business rather than any tool. And, Ariba - Manhattan, don't U think ur limiting ur scope...they indeed are good options, but be open to the entire field, U never know something would click and U land up working for one of them.

Hope this helps...
Nikhil.

Dear Friend,

Hmm, "just application" means that ur looking at Functional Consultancy. One of the best things that U did was approach Siemens directly, as Siemens and Genovat are the only two education partners that SAP has in India. I think, the advice on going for the SD Module sounds very logical; but then the dark side even though there is a demand for certified SD consultants in the market, there are certain factors that a company considers while recruitment (IT Exp / Domain Exp etc) that depends on whatever the client in turn asks the company.

But still IMHO as U have a relevant domain, and U would go for Siemens which has a credible image in the market...the chances of U being picked up after ur certification are pretty high. Also what U can do is call a coupla HR guys (most company websites have the numbers available) working for different companies and get it straight from the horse's mouth, what kinda candidates are they recruiting these days...that'd give U a clear picture.

Last, there are institutes like IsquareIT Pune, which offer a full time 2 year certificate course in MBA - AIT (Advanced Information Technology) or C-Dac Noida with full time 2 year MBA (IT) and full time 1 year PGD in Software Enterprise Management...as well as PGDSEM @ IIM Bangalore. These are few that I am aware of, rest all Google and lemme know if U find something interesting !

Hope this helps...
Nikhil.

Re: Are you thinking of Joining an ERP course????? - 05-10-2007, 11:09 PM

Hi Mr Devil

Thx for that insight..more q's that are troubling me....im into SCM recruitment right now due to various reasons but have 2 yrs of Exp with ABB before that...my q is it it better to do an MBA and go straight into ERP consulting (assuming sum corporate picks me for it)....or wud it be better to build a domain expertise and then shift to ERP consulting?
If Domain and then ERP then what are the chances of getting a break into ERP?

I have come across and spoken to a lot of people with around 6-8 yrs of Exp in logistics of SCM domain who are working as Functional consultants(most of them work for what would be called Tier 2 companies or work on contract) for specific modules and also have come across people from Premier B Schools with 2 yrs exp before MBA and currently working in niche areas of ERP consulting...

My q is what does it take to get into niche areas of ERP/SCM consulting?
Not talking about SD or MM cos these modules are amongst the common modules....talking about something like IS Retail or WM....

Thx
Rj

Hi all....
Am at a point in my life where am directionless and seeking opinions about my next step..
Please provide me your thoughts.
My background:
Economics hons from calcutta university
My work:
functional implementor/testor for Oracle Apps 11i E business Suite.
My Company:
Cognizant Tech Solutions.
Skillsets:
functional knowledge of Oracle Apps financials, Supply chain, PL/SQL.
In the pipeline:
CAT 08 (will complete 2 yrs work ex on April 09 hence would be eligible for most laterals)
My questions:
1. Would I benefit from an OCP like OCP Payables/Recievables or Inventory?
If so, what benefits?

2. What other options do I have to leverage my career? Am querying a first person viewpoint on this..If you would be in my position, what would you do?
